Chiefs RB Le'Veon Bell could play Week 7

Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid told reporters on Wednesday that newly-signed running back Le'Veon Bell will practice this week and has a chance to play Week 7 against the Broncos.

Fantasy Impact: 

Bell's role in Week 7 is vital information for fantasy managers who drafted Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Even if Bell plays this week, it is hard to imagine him being more than a change-of-pace back behind Helaire in his first game as a Chief. Even so, Bell's ability in the passing game and at the goal line means this backfield will in all likelihood be a two-way committee in short order, with Helaire getting a downgrade in his fantasy projections as a result. Bell will be tough to trust in fantasy until we see how Kansas City decides to deploy him.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire stands to lose some playing time to Le'Veon Bell, but if the Chiefs run anywhere near as much as they did against the Bills, there will be more than enough for both players.

Fantasy Impact: 

Jay Glazer of Fox reported Monday the Chiefs still intend to start CEH, and Bell was brought in to take away some of the pounding the rookie back has taken. While Bell will surely take some work away from Helaire, maybe the bigger concern is for Mahomes owners if the Chiefs really do start running the ball more.

First-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire was at the forefront of the attack [Monday night]. He had 161 yards on 26 carries a few days after the Chiefs signed Le'Veon Bell to join him in the backfield. Monday’s outing showed why the Chiefs would likely be OK moving forward without Bell, but Edwards-Helaire sounded ready to welcome his new teammate with open arms.

“Talking to Le’Veon, he’s another piece to the puzzle,” Edwards-Helaire said, via Nate Taylor of TheAthletic.com. “From here, I just feel like we can only go up. Le’Veon is older than me. I’m still in my rookie year, so, ultimately, anything that I can do to pick his brain and gain any knowledge from him, I’m there for it.”

Fantasy Impact: 

CEH is willing to learn from Bell. On Monday night, Fox's Jay Glazer reported the Chiefs didn't bring Bell in to be the starter, but instead to take some of the pounding away from the Chiefs rookie back, which seems to be good news for owners going forward.

Jay Glazer reported the Chiefs picked up RB Le'Veon Bell to take some of the pounding from Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Fantasy Impact: 

Glazer said HC Andy Reid said Bell will take some of the reps from CEH and won't be the starter. It's potentially good news for CEH owners if it proves to be true. With CEH a smaller-sized back, the Chiefs seem like they are just trying to keep him healthy for the long road ahead.
