Bears HC Marc Trestman on Michael Bush: "We’ve kind of isolated and declared Michael our goal-line running back."

Fantasy Impact:

This is nothing new to Forte owners as we saw Bush go in from in close on Sunday night against the Steelers. However, Forte does have 2 TDs so far this season. That may give Bush some value in scoring only leagues, but it's still a risk to start him even in that format. Forte owners should think about adding Bush as a handcuff if they haven't already.

Matt Forte expects bigger role in pass game

Bears RB Matt Forte is looking forward to a larger role in the passing game, not just more receptions, but more yards per catch. He has touchdown catches of 89 and 56 yards in his five-year career.

‘‘I’m just excited about getting back to getting out of the backfield and running routes and catching balls. Not just running the ball, but getting the ball out in space,’’ Forte said. ‘‘It’s a different way of running the ball. After you catch it, you’ve got to run with it. So instead of handing it off, you get the ball out in space, and that gives you more opportunity to make big plays.’’

Fantasy Impact:

Not using Forte last year is one of the reasons Lovie Smith lost is job, according to the story. That bodes well for owners this year, especially in PPR formats. Last year, Forte caught 44 passes for 340 yards which were both career lows. He could still lose goal line carries to Michael Bush, but overall having Forte fall to you in the early second round should be a nice bargain.

Projecting Bears RB Matt Forte in HC Marc Trestman's offense is exciting. If Trestman relies heavily on what he did while with the Raiders more than a decade ago, Forte will be a dual threat.

Trestman called former Raiders running back Charlie Garner one of his favorite players. Garner made 91 receptions for 941 yards in 2002 and rushed for 962 yards on 182 carries. It might be asking too much for Forte to catch 91 passes, but he sure could top the career-high 63 he had as a rookie in 2008.

Fantasy Impact:

We rank Forte 12th among our RBs. Michael Bush, ranked 51st, could still be a threat to take away carries as well as TDs in close, but Forte projects to be a second-round pick and a very high end RB2, perhaps especially in PPR leagues.
