Chargers RB Mike Tolbert, who suffered a concussion this past Sunday, was cleared to practice Wednesday and is expected to practice Monday. Turner also said Ryan Mathews (calf strain) could return to practice Monday. If not, he is expected back Wednesday. In fact, all injured players except defensive end Luis Castillo are expected back next week.

Chargers running back Ryan Mathews left the visitor's locker room on crutches, with his left foot in a walking boot. Teammate Mike Tolbert suffered a concussion during Sunday's 29-24 victory over the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field and did not return.

Mathews remained productive despite early injuries. He had a career-high 125 yards on 24 carries. His injuries, just like Tolbert, aren't expected to affect his playing status for the Oct. 23 game at the New York Jets following next week's bye.

Fantasy Impact: 

We'll continue to follow the progress of both backs leading up to week 7 against the Jets.

Turner: 24-25 carries would "help" Ryan Mathews

San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner chatted with the media following Wednesday's practice and discussed the role of Ryan Mathews moving forward. Turner indicated that he believes Mathews' could benefit from getting into the range of 24-25 carries per game. Mathews had 16 carries and five receptions last week and 21 carries and four receptions the week before.

Fantasy Impact: 

Coaches often state goals that they're unable to meet for one reason or another. (Remember, Shonne Greene was supposed to see 300+ carries this season, and he's on pace for 204.) But while Turner can't ensure that Mathews gets 24+ carries, he is in control of how the touches are distributed amongst Mathews and Mike Tolbert. Against the Dolphins, the two players saw the same number of snaps., so thus far it has been a timeshare. Keep in mind that Mathews hasn't been the most durable RB in the world -- an increased workload means an increased risk of injury.

In the San Diego backfield on Sunday, Ryan Mathews is slated to get more touches, but Mike Tolbert will get some opportunities on the goal line.

Fantasy Impact: 

Right now it's looking like both Mathews and Tolbert will have some value. However, neither one of them projects as an RB1 as they could cancel each other out quite a bit.
