Joique Bell burst onto the scene last season for the Detroit Lions, becoming a consistent weapon out of their backfield.

Bell finished second on the team (Mikel Leshoure) with 414 yards rushing (5.0 average). He also caught 52 passes for 485 yards, ranking fifth in the league for number of catches by any running back in the NFL.

Bell's role grew a lot last season and it seems he's continued the upward trend throughout the offseason.

"Joique's had an outstanding offseason," Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said after last week's last mini-camp practice. "Him and (Matthew) Stafford probably spent most of the time here at the facility (during the offseason).

Fantasy Impact:

Bell is going to lose catches to Reggie Bush, but the team seems to want to get him on the field. That may end up taking away carries from LeShoure...

Detroit Lion RB Mikel Leshoure is on the mend and wants to prove he can be consistently effective and, of course, available.

“You know, I think at times last year we saw the Leshoure that we drafted and then we were too inconsistent in other games and I think that’s probably the biggest thing,” coach Jim Schwartz said. “I think his biggest room for improvement is consistency from week to week, whether it’s physical or else wise.”

It’s early, but so far, so good. The Lions have been managing Leshoure’s practice time this offseason, but he took part fully in minicamp last week.

Fantasy Impact:

We rank Reggie Bush 23rd and LeShoure 37th on our standard RB list. While Bush will likely play a large role on third down, LeShoure, if healthy, should get the goal line chances and possibly work on first and second down. Health will be the key for both of these backs.

OC Linehan: Reggie Bush's role will be "pretty substantial"

Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan has that vital weapon — a versatile and explosive running back — that has been lacking in his arsenal for so long.

“Well, I think [Reggie Bush is] definitely going to add a dynamic to our offense,” Linehan said. “First of all, he gives us a running back that has produced in this league and really, in the last two years, done a really good job of just carrying the ball. He’s done it.

“You saw it even prior to his last stop (in New Orleans), he was doing a lot of the things you’ll see him do in our offense and be a dual-threat guy. He gives us a dynamic that, you know, a lot like what we got with Jahvid. It’s a little different, everybody’s different, but he definitely gives us a guy that can be an effective rusher and effective receiver.”

“So,” Linehan said, “the one thing about his position is you can get him the ball as a runner and as a pass receiver and his involvement is going to be pretty substantial.”

Fantasy Impact:

Bush's value will hinge on how much the Lions use him as a runner. We currently have him projected for 176 carries, while we project his backup, Mikel LeShoure to see 133 carries. LeShoure is likely to see the goal line work.
