Scouting report

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Pittsburgh
It was Miles Sanders worst fantasy performance of the young season as he failed to reach 100 yards from scrimmage for the first time this year and did not reach the end zone for the second straight game. His touches also dropped from 23 and 22 the first two games to 15. Not sure why the Eagles aren't leaning on their best overall player when the team is struggling on offnese.

Sanders will face his hometown team the Steelers on Sunday who are ranked 16th in aFPA to running backs. Pittsburgh's defense has been very good and that ranking is deceiving.

We don't like the matchup and don't like where the Eagles offense is right now despite getting their first win of the season last Sunday. Sanders still deserves a start for Week 5 but only as a low-end RB2 which is not where most owners were expecting him to be any time this season.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at San Francisco
The Eagles offense has struggled but Miles Sanders has been a bright spot. He is averaging 95 rushing yards per game and 3.5 receptions per game. Expect Philly to get him even more involved in the passing game with TE Dallas Goedert. Philadelphia also needs to help their struggling quarterback with a safer passing game.

Sanders will face the Niners who are ranked 15th in aFPA to running backs. San Fran is banged up, but the defense is still very formidable. Expect them to focus on Sanders.

Start Sanders as a low-end RB1 for Week 4. We expect Philadelphia to continue to ride their best offensive player. The numbers should be there again this week against the 49ers.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Cincinnati
After missing Week 1, Miles Sanders proved how valuable he is in this offense and what kind of production he is capable of. He ended up with 23 touches for 131 yards and a touchdown. He was also targeted seven times which gives you an indication that is going to be a true three-down back and everyone knows the Eagles love throwing to their running backs and tight ends.

Sanders has a great matchup against a poor defense. The Bengals are ranked 27th in aFPA to running backs. Cincy hasn't solved any of their issues on that side of the ball and we saw what an average Cleveland offense did to them last week.

Start Sanders in all leagues and formats. He is a sold RB1 for Week 3 and might even give you a top 5 fantasy running back performance. We expect the Eagles offense to find it's way again and this would be a good week to start.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs Los Angeles Rams
Miles Sanders didn't make the trip to Washington last week and it hurt the running game and especially hurt the Eagles in the second half with the lead. Sanders is expected to have a big season and be a major part of the Philly offense.

The Eagles face the Rams who are 13th in aFPA to running backs. They have to find a way to get the running game going and we think Sanders will at least get the touches in his season debut.

Start Sanders as a low-end RB2 for Week 2. The Eagles have the potential for the offense to be really good, and if that happens, Sanders will be a huge beneficiary.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Washington
There were many questions about Miles Sanders' role as a rookie before the 2019 season started. He ended up being a solid fantasy player and should even be more improved considering he is now their definitive No. 1 back. He is well-rounded in both the running and passing game.

Sanders will face a Washington offense that was ranked 30th in aFPA to running backs in 2019. He had his only 100-yard rushing game against them and added 50 yards receiving and two total touchdowns.

Expect some big games from Sanders this season and the matchup with Washington is very favorable. For Week 1, we rank him as a low-end RB1. Philly has a chance to have one of the best offenses in the NFL and Sanders could benefit from that.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - 2020 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Miles Sanders had a solid rookie season with the Eagles. He had 229 touches which produced 1,327 yards from scrimmage. He was top ranked rookie in yards from scrimmage and 16th overall in the NFL. It was unknown heading into 2019 what his role would be with Philly despite being a second round selection but if you drafted him in fantasy, you got a steal. The competition from last season is gone with Darren Sproles retiring and Jordan Howard moving over to Miami, The Eagles didn't bring any new backs so there won't be much compeition for touches. Sanders will probably receive more goalline touches in 2020 with the departure of Howard.

Fantasy Downside
Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has preferred a running back by committee approach so that could still take touches away from Sanders. Philly's offensive line wasn't dominant in 2019, but all five starters return so the cohesiveness of the unit could make them above average in 2020 which would help the running game.

2020 Bottom Line
We expect the carries to go up as well as the rushing yardage for Sanders. And the touchdowns should rise with more red zone carries. The receptions and receiving yards will probably stay the same which means it will be essential for Sanders value to get more carries. His ADP is 19 right now so a late-second round selection is about where he should go. He ranks the No. 12 fantasy running back which places him as a borderline RB1/RB2 back. Sanders is solid pick in the second round and if he is your second running back, you will have one of the best fantasy backfields in your league.

PHI RB Miles Sanders - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at New York Giants
Miles Sanders had 25 touches last week for 156 yards and was very involved in the offense, especially the passing game. He has become the workhorse for the Eagles and Philly has had success with him in that role. We expect more even with the return of veteran Jordan Howard.

The Giants are up next and are ranked 14th in aFPA to running backs. In the first meeting between the two teams back in Week 14, Sanders had 19 touches for 69 yards. He is a good play for Week 17 since the Eagles are playing for the postseason.

Start Sanders as a high-end RB2 this week and expect him to be close to 20 touches again. Howard's return prevents him from being an RB1.
