SD K Nick Novak - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 - Novak vs. Oakland
Nick Novak kicked just one field goal last week as the Bolts put up four TDs. He remains perfect on the year in field goals (11) and extra points (14). It's another great matchup for Novak this week against the Raiders, who are ranked 25th in allowing fantasy points to kickers. Novak comes in as our top play this week and should have plenty of chances to put up points.

SD K Nick Novak - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 - Novak vs. NY Jets
Nick Novak booted four FGs last week making him 10-for-10 on the year. He turned out to be a great play as expected. He's got a similar mathup this week against the Jets who rank 27th in allowing fantasy points to kickers. Novak is again a top play. The Bolts will have to move the ball through the air in this one with a struggling running game and that could create some chances again for Novak.

Week 4 - Novak vs. Jacksonville
Nick Novak booted two field goals and added two extra points last week against the Bills. This week, he comes in as our top kicker for Week 4 in an attractive matchup against the Jags at home. The Bolts should be able to move the ball with ease this week, possibly setting up Novak for a big day.

SD K Nick Novak - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 - Novak vs. Buffalo
It wasn't a great matchup but the Chargers offense looked good in a game against Seattle last week and even Nick Novak had a nice day with three field goals and three extra points. Novak comes in ranked 15th this week in a decent matchup against the Bills who are 27th in allowing fantasy points to kickers. If the Bolts can continue to move the ball, Novak could out-kick his rank this week, but even so we think there are better options to go with.

Nick Novak hit for a field goal and added two extra points in what was expected to be a tough matchup. This week isn't any easier and Novak is way down our kicker list. It's best to go with another option this week, even with the Bolts at home. Seattle is third in allowing fantasy points to kickers.

Week 1 vs Cardinals
Heading into Week 1, the Chargers have a tough task at hand against the Cards, and that even takes into consideration the kicking game. Nick Novak ranks 18th on our kicker list and the Cards defense is 10th in allowing fantasy points to the position. Novak should have his share of solid, K1 weeks this year, but this may not be one of them.

Fantasy Upside
Nick Novak had one of the best seasons in Chargers history for a kicker, tying John Carney's team record for most-made field goals in a season with 34. Novak also set a franchise record for accuracy with a 91.9 percent conversion rate (34 of 37) on field goals. Which is a good thing.

Fantasy Downside
Novak finished in the bottom of the league in touchbacks, with 19.6 percent of his kickoffs resulting in opposing teams getting the ball at the 20-yard line.

Bottom Line
Nonetheless, Novak ranked seventh in fantasy points among kickers in 2013, nailing 11 field goals from 40-plus yards. Playing in tandem with a Chargers offense that while it moved the ball well only ranked 12th in scoring works in his favor (which explains the number of field goals made). Grab him if you happen to miss out on the beginning of the kicker run in your draft.
