Fantasy Upside
O.J. Howard was efficient as a rookie, hauling in 26 of his 39 targets. He finished tied for the team-high in receiving touchdowns (6), which helped him place No. 20 among tight ends in PPR formats. He’s a big, athletic tight end capable of putting up TE1 numbers with enough opportunities.
Fantasy Downside
In most offenses, Howard would be a TE1 prospect in fantasy this season. But with the Bucs, he has to split time with fellow talented tight end Cameron Brate. The two of them together is great for the Bucs, but bad for fantasy owners who want to start one of them on a weekly basis.
2018 Bottom Line
Much like last season, there will be games where Howard puts up big numbers and you wished you started him. But then he’ll follow it up with a dud and you’ll continue to be frustrated as he won’t put up reliable production. If Brate ever gets hurt, then Howard immediately becomes an attractive option. Otherwise, we expect the two of them to cancel each other.
