Scouting report

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 5, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Green Bay
With Rashad Jennings out last week, Orleans Darkwa got 12 carries for 48 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort against the Vikings. Darkwa looks to remain the starter for as long as Jennings remains on the injury report and should have value as long as he’s in the lineup. Jennings’ status is still up in the air for Sunday, but if doesn’t play, Darkwa is at least a low-end RB2 option while he’s out.

The Packers this week pose a problem for Darkwa, as they’ve allowed only one rushing touchdown all season, and have allowed the fewest rushing yards per game so far – only 42.7! Part of that is because teams have to throw the ball against them, but part of it is how effective they’ve been up front. Darkwa should be a low-end RB2/RB3 option if Jennings is out. If Jennings plays, stay away from both players.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Minnesota
With Rashad Jennings banged up last week, Orleans Darkwa got 10 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown. With Shane Vereen now on IR, Darkwa could be in for a full-time workload if Jennings misses more time, as is expected. Darkwa was productive against Washington last week, averaging 5.3 yards per carry and he seems to have held off rookie Paul Perkins for the primary backup role.

Assuming Jennings misses the game as expected, Darkwa should be added as a low-end RB2 option in most leagues. He would be more valuable if the matchup wasn’t so bad. He faces a Vikings defense that has limited opposing rushers to a mere 3.5 yards per carry and ranks seventh in the league with only 252 rushing yards allowed so far this season. Darkwa should get a big enough workload to be valuable, but temper your expectations in a tough matchup.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 3, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Washington
Orleans Darkwa may be in for some added work this week with Rashad Jennings missing the contest. Washington hasn't been great on defense so far this year and gave up touchdowns to both DeAngelo Williams in Week 1, and to Zeke Elliott last week. He's a risky option because the bulk of the workload will probably go to Shane Vereen, but he has a chance to get some goal line work and isn't a bad flyer in deep TD leagues.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 14, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Miami
Orleans Darkwa actually led the Giants in carries last week with eight, but only managed 23 yards on the ground, adding another 10 on a reception. The Giants have been splitting offensive snaps heavily between the four main running backs on their roster, and until they give significant work to one of them, none are worth serious fantasy consideration. Leave Darkwa on the bench, even in a nice matchup against the Dolphins.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 9, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Tampa Bay

Orleans Darkwa had four carries last week for 23 yards. He’s a little hobbled this week, so fantasy owners should look elsewhere for production. Even if he ends up playing, he isn’t guaranteed to get a consistent workload. He has a nice matchup, but until we see him really challenge Rashad Jennings for the starting role, it’s hard to recommend him as anything more than a handcuff or stash player.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 8, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at New Orleans
The Giants tried a fourth player in their crowded backfield last week against the Cowboys, as Orleans Darkwa ended up with eight carries for 48 yards and a touchdown. The good news for Darkwa is he looked more effective than Andre Williams has this season, but Darkwa will still spit carries and snaps with Williams, Shane Vereen and on-paper starter Rashad Jennings. While Darkwa is an interesting option to add in deeper leagues, he’s not really worth looking into yet in a crowded backfield that seems to be getting more and more crowded.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Orleans Darkwa vs. Philadelphia
Orleans Darkwa had a nice 12 yard touchdown run against the Rams last week as the change of pace back behind Andre Williams, but that was the highlight of a four carry, 21 yard performance on the day. He did catch a pair of passes for 17 yards, but he remains a backup and change of pace option this week against the Eagles, limiting his fantasy value. Fantasy owners should leave him on waivers.
