SD QB Philip Rivers - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 - Rivers vs. Denver

Philip Rivers threw for 189 yards and a TD last week in a loss to the Patriots. It wasn't a great matchup but Rivers was coming off a real nice game against the Ravens the week before so owners were certainly hoping for more.

This week, the matchup looks good on paper as the Bolts take on the Broncos who come in ranked 29th in allowing fantasy points to QBs. Back in Week 8, Rivers threw for three TDs against the Broncos. But over the last couple of seasons, the Chargers really try to establish the run, take time off the clock and keep Peyton Manning off the field in these matchups. As a result, Rivers comes in just outside our top-10 this week. He should put up solid numbers, but owners will hope the Broncos get out to a lead in this one so Rivers has to play catch-up.

SD QB Philip Rivers - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 - Rivers vs. New England

Philip Rivers busted back out with a 383-yard performance last week, adding three more TD passes. He even picked up 19 yards rushing as he brought the Bolts back to beat the Ravens.

This week Rivers and company are at home against New England. The Pats are ranked 25th in allowing fantasy points to QBs, so this is another good matchup for Rivers' owners, and it's even better the game is at home. On top of that, WR Keenan Allen is starting to heat up. Rivers comes in ranked 10th on our list of QBs and makes for a pretty solid option this week, especially on a fantasy team that strong at other positions heading into what are many leagues' opening week of playoffs.

SD QB Philip Rivers - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 - Rivers vs. Baltimore

Philip Rivers bounced back a little last week, throwing for 291 yards and a TD. He did add another interception giving him seven TDs and seven INTs over his last five games.

This week, Rivers gets the Ravens who rank in the bottom half of the league in allowing fantasy points to QBs. The Ravens are tough against the run so Rivers is likely going to have to be a factor in this contest. It's a long trip across the country, though, and you always have to worry about a letdown. Rivers is outside of QB1 range this week, with no teams on bye.

SD QB Philip Rivers - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 - Rivers vs. St. Louis

Philip Rivers threw for just 193 yards and a TD last week against the Raiders. Owners hoped for more fantasy production but it marks back-to-back sluggish weeks of fantasy points.

TE Antonio Gates came out this week and said Rivers was dealing with a severe rib injury, which could very much have to do with his drop in production. Rivers and the team have since downplayed it. But, Rivers has six TDs and six INTs the last four games and hasn't thrown for more than 252 yards in that span.

This week Rivers gets the Rams at home, who are ranked 20th in allowing fantasy points to QBs. It's a good matchup, but Rivers takes a hit in the rankings with this injury and spotty play of late. He falls to QB13.

SD QB Philip Rivers - Week 11, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 - Rivers vs. Oakland
When we last left Philip Rivers he had his worst game of the season back in Week 9 at Miami. He finished with 138 yards, three picks and no TDs. He also fumbled.

Now the Bolts look to break a three-game losing streak at home against Oakland. The Raiders are 17th in allowing fantasy points to QBs so it's not a great matchup because teams usually find success running the ball vs. Oakland and build a lead. But last time the teams met, Rivers threw for 313 yards and three TDs, so the potential is there. Rivers should bounce back this week and we rank him seventh among our QBs.

SD QB Philip Rivers - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 - Rivers vs. Miami
Philip Rivers threw for 252 yards and three TDs last week as the Bolts ended up getting in a shootout and playing from behind against the Broncos. His 41 attempts last week was a season high.

This week, Rivers comes in ranked eighth on our QB list with a matchup against the Dolphins. Miami ranks fifth in allowing fantasy points to QBs so this isn't a great matchup on paper. The Chargers are also making the cross-country trip and have a bye in Week 10 so this has all the making of a possible clunker. The good news is the Bolts have lost two in a row now and should be hungry to go into the bye with a win. Rivers has thrown for three TDs five times this season, and with the run game struggling a bit, it may be up to him to continue that.

SD QB Philip Rivers - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 - Rivers vs. Denver
Last week was the first somewhat disappointing fantasy week for Philip Rivers' owners as he only put up 205 yards passing to go with two TDs and his third INT of the year.

It was the first time since Week 3 Rivers didn't throw for three TDs in a game. This week, it's the Broncos who rank 16th in allowing fantasy points to QBs. Rivers is ranked as a low-end QB1 on our list this week and at first thought one may think this will be a high scoring game. But the Chargers have played the Broncos pretty well, at least at times, using a run game to keep Peyton Manning and his offense off the field and the scoring down.

This is likely the strategy again this week and if it's successful Rivers may not put up the fantasy numbers you want him to. Denver is tough against the run so it may not go as the Bolts have planned. Either way, it's hard to sit Rivers because any game with Denver can turn into a shootout.
