LAC QB Philip Rivers - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Denver Broncos
The Chargers had a bye in Week 12.

This is purely observational, but Philip Rivers looked completely washed in Week 11 on national TV against the Kansas City Chiefs. Rivers has been a streaming candidate several times this season but should not be in consideration on the road against the Denver Broncos. The Broncos are fifth-best against quarterbacks, as shown by our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. Rivers has yet to finish above QB9 this season, per Evan Silva. 4for4’s rankings expert, John Paulsen, has Rivers ranked as a low-end QB2.

LAC QB Philip Rivers - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Kansas City Chiefs (Mexico City)
Rivers was in a great matchup on Thursday night against the Oakland Raiders but completely blew his primetime opportunity. He was a reasonable streaming option but did not come through for his team or fantasy managers. He was 17/31 for 207 yards, threw two touchdowns, three interceptions, and finished as the QB21. Rivers was in a position to lead his team to a comeback victory but he threw seven consecutive incompletions on the final drive and an interception to end the game.

Rivers is back in primetime on Monday Night Football in Mexico City. The Kansas City defense is more susceptible to giving up yards on the ground than through the air. Derrick Henry rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns against the Chiefs in Week 10. The good news for the Chargers is this game has the highest over/under (52.5) of the week and could turn into a shootout. The Chiefs are 13th-worst against quarterbacks, as shown by our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. 4for4’s rankings expert, John Paulsen, has Rivers ranked as a high-end QB2. Rivers has yet to finish above QB9 this season, per Evan Silva, but may be forced into a decent number of passing situations if the Chiefs get off to a hot start.

LAC QB Philip Rivers - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Oakland Raiders
In Week 9, Rivers was 21/28 for 294 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions, and finished as the QB23. The Chargers started the fourth quarter with a 19-3 lead over the Packers, which resulted in more touches for the running backs down the stretch.

Rivers has had some difficult matchups recently but draws a near-perfect matchup against the Raiders who are one of the biggest pass funnels in the entire league. The Raiders defense is dead last (32) against quarterbacks, per our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. This game has a decent over/under (48.5) and Rivers would benefit from this game turning into a shoot-out. 4for4’s rankings expert John Paulsen has Rivers ranked as a mid-range QB1 in Week 10. Rivers is a good streaming option for those in need of a quarterback with six teams (Broncos, Eagles, Jaguars, Patriots, Washington, and the Texans) on bye.

LAC QB Philip Rivers - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs Green Bay Packers
In Week 8, Rivers was 19/29 for 201 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and finished as the QB26. The Chargers won the game on a last-second missed field goal by the Bears but Rivers had a dud fantasy performance. Offensive Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt was fired after the game. Shane Steichen will take over play-calling duties.

Rivers draws another difficult matchup at “home” against the Green Bay Packers. Home is in quotes because it would not be surprising to see more Packers fans in attendance than Chargers fans. Green Bay is seventh-best against quarterbacks, per our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. This game has a decent over/under (48) and the Chargers are implied for 22.25 points. Center, Mike Pouncey (neck,) and Left Guard, Forrest Lamp (broken leg) will miss the rest of the season but Left Tackle, Russell Okung played last week and will play in Week 9. 4for4’s rankings expert, John Paulsen, has Rivers ranked as a high-end QB2.

LAC QB Philip Rivers - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Chicago Bears

In Week 7, he was 24/38 for 329 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions, and finished as the QB7. The Chargers lost the game on a last second Melvin Gordon fumble at the goal line but Rivers managed to put up good fantasy numbers on the road against a solid Titans defense.

Rivers draws another difficult road matchup against the Chicago Bears this week. They are ninth best against quarterbacks, per our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. This game has the second lowest over/under (41) and the Chargers are only implied for 18.5 points. Rivers will be without Center, Mike Pouncey (neck,) and Left Guard, Forrest Lamp (broken leg), but Left Tackle, Russell Okung, will be back for a limited number of snaps. 4for4’s rankings expert, John Paulsen, has Rivers ranked as the QB21. Rivers is a risky start and better streaming options might be available on your waiver wire.

LAC QB Philip Rivers - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Chicago Bears
Philip Rivers had a rough week at “home” against the Chargers. I put air quotes around home because it looked like Steelers fans outnumbered Chargers fans during the Sunday Night Football broadcast. He was 26/44 for 320 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, and finished as the QB16.

Rivers could turn in another subpar fantasy performance against the Titans. They are the ninth-best defense against the quarterback position, as shown by our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. 4for4’s rankings expert John Paulsen has Rivers ranked as the QB20. Better streaming options should be available.

LAC QB Philip Rivers - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Philip Rivers had an abysmal week against the Broncos. He was 32/48 for 211 yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions, and finished as the QB29. Rivers had the lowest fantasy performance of any starting quarterback in Week 5.

Rivers could turn in another subpar fantasy performance against the Steelers. Pittsburgh is the second best defense against the quarterback position, as shown by our signature schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. As a whole, the Chargers have been decimated by injuries and will have to play another game without left tackle Russell Okung and center Mike Pouncey, who was put on IR with a neck injury. Pittsburgh has the third most sacks (19) and will look to add to this total against an injured offensive line. 4for4 rankings expert, John Paulsen, has Rivers ranked as the QB15.
