Scouting report

IND WR Phillip Dorsett - Week 5, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Chicago
Dorsett is the ultimate boom-or-bust flex play in Week 5, evidenced by his one reception for a 64-yard touchdown last week. The targets just aren't there the past two weeks though to spark any confidence in consistency moving forward - seven total the past two weeks. Andrew Luck simply doesn't have enough time to find Dorsett frequently.

IND WR Phillip Dorsett - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Jacksonville
Dorsett is questionable to play (ankle) in London against the Jaguars. So, it's an early wake up call if you have him in flex consideration to make sure he plays. Hilton only saw four targets last week though in his first game without Donte Moncrief, as Luck spread the ball around to his secondary options when not peppering T.Y. Hilton with targets. Dorsett is a high-risk, high-reward option in Week 4 if active.

IND WR Phillip Dorsett - Week 3, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Dorsett takes over WR2 snaps for the Colts with Donte Moncrief out 4-6 weeks. His elite speed makes him a threat to take it the distance on any deep ball. However, he could get matched up on Chargers emerging star cornerback Jason Verrett on many of his snaps this week. Nevertheless, Dorsett's target share should increase. We view Dorsett as a WR3 with upside in Week 3.

IND WR Phillip Dorsett - Week 2, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Denver
Dorsett makes for an interesting sleeper start this week, as the Colts will likely want to stay away from Denver corners Aqib Talib and Chris Harris. That's exactly what the Colts did in Rob Chudzinski's first game as offensive coordinator last season, when slot receiver Griff Whalen tied for the team-high with six targets. He turned those into five receptions for 73 yards. Dorsett is far more skilled than Whalen and already led the Colts with 94 yards on four receptions last week. He makes for an interesting sneaky start this week. Dorsett playing in 73 percent of snaps also shows the Colts base offense will be 11 personnel (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR).

IND WR Phillip Dorsett - Week 1, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Detroit
Dorsett is a sleeper entering 2016, but it's hard to trust him in your lineups even in a plus match-up against the Lions, as we just don't know how many targets will come his way. He only averaged 3.5 targets per game last season. That's not enough to be trusted to start 2016 in your lineups.

IND WR Phillip Dorsett - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
The Colts made a conscious effort to utilize more 3WR formations last season instead of 2TE sets, after spending a 1st round pick on Dorsett. With TE Coby Fleener gone, there’s no reason to believe that won’t continue again in 2016, giving Dorsett the snaps required to get regular targets. That could make Dorsett a handful for nickel corners, as he flashed big play ability in 2015, most notably a Week 3 35-yard touchdown in a comeback win at Tennessee. If anything were to happen to T.Y. Hilton or Donte Moncrief, Dorsett’s fantasy stock would also see a big rise.

Fantasy Downside
There are a lot of mouths to feed in the passing game in Indianapolis, and at best, Dorsett is 3rd in that pecking order. That likely makes it difficult to expect consistent production on a week-to-week basis from this young, but very talented, receiver.

Bottom Line
Dorsett is not inside our top-60 receivers, and despite the tantalizing measurables in Dorsett’s game, targets will be an issue. He’s currently being drafted in the 13th round in 12-team leagues, and even that late, there are better options than Dorsett (unless Hilton or Moncrief get hurt).

IND WR Phillip Dorsett - Week 7, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. New Orleans
Phillip Dorsett hasn't had more than two receptions in any game this season. He's not worth considering, even in a good matchup.
