New Orleans finished with 118 yards on 29 carries, with Mark Ingram and Pierre Thomas combining for 23 of those runs. The team averaged 4.1 yards per carry. That is a statistical package that reflects a team that can get a yard or two on the ground when it must, and that showcases various backs the defense must respect and align against differently.

Still, Sean Payton said Monday the integration of the talented trio is, "a work in progress."

Fantasy Impact: 

Payton said he would give Thomas and Ingram a couple of series at a time depending on the situation of the game. While Thomas has had the better numbers are far as yards per carry (5.1 to 3.4), Ingram should still be the guy to get the ball at goal line, making him a little more valuable in the fantasy world. Right now, none of the three backs look safe as anything more than RB3 or flex spots in standard leagues.

Despite all the attention on Saints Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles, there’s no doubt Pierre Thomas will remain a part of the personality of the Saints offense. Like Ingram, Thomas is a complete and versatile back. He can run inside and outside and also can catch passes.

One of the best things about Payton’s offense is a lot of people are going to touch the ball. That means Thomas will get his chances.

Fantasy Impact: 

The Saints have one heck of committee in their backfield. Pierre Thomas may be a good spot starter. Look for the Vet to get an extra 5-10% of the carries until Ingram finds his way.

Pierre Thomas' surgically-repaired ankle has been a non-issue so far during New Orleans Saints training camp.

He hasn't missed a day of practice, and he's been running strong - as evidenced by his 13-yard run to open Saturday night's preseason game at Houston.

Thomas also gained 15 yards on a pass from quarterback Drew Brees against the Texans and finished the game with six carries for 33 yards.

Thomas, who labeled himself "85 percent" healthy at the start of camp because he said he still needed to get his full strength back and get into football shape, said he's now up to "95 percent."
