Saints ink Darren Sproles

The New Orleans Saints didn't waste time replacing departed tailback Reggie Bush. They agreed to a four-year deal with free agent tailback Darren Sproles worth $14 million with $6 million guaranteed. A league source confirmed the deal, which was originally reported by Alex Marvez.

"The skill set that Reggie had was certainly unique. Darren may have a comparable skill set. That would be a pretty good comparison," Saints Coach Sean Payton said earlier Thursday before the deal was finalized -- though he insisted the team wasn't looking for a Plan B when it began pursuing Sproles. "I think (Sproles) is an exceptional talent. He is very versatile and dynamic."

Fantasy Impact: 

Pierre Thomas takes a hit here. He was supposed to replace Bush in the passing game, but Sproles is simply a better, more explosive pass catcher out of the backfield. This doesn't help Mark Ingram, Lance Moore or Jimmy Graham either.

The final hurdle to a trade between the Saints and Dolphins was cleared when running back Reggie Bush reached agreement with Miami on a new two-year contract, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter Thursday.

New Orleans and Miami had agreed to a trade if and when Bush agreed to a new deal. The Dolphins and Joel Segal, Bush's agent, worked into the early-morning hours to produce the needed agreement. Bush will fly to Miami at some point and sign his new contract to make the trade official.

The Dolphins have been seeking a running back to pair with second-round draft choice Daniel Thomas.

Fantasy Impact: 

This trade is good news for Daniel Thomas owners. We knew the Dolphins would add a runner, but adding Reggie Bush doesn't threaten early down work nearly the way a guy like Ahmad Bradshaw would have. Other big winners are Pierre Thomas & Lance Moore in New Orleans as well as Bush himself, who should see an increase in touches in the Miami offense.

Lance Moore has apparently agreed to a five-year deal with the Saints. He tweeted, "Welp, its been real new orleans........But let's make the next five years even more real. I'm coming back baby!!!"

Fantasy Impact: 

Moore is a nice sleeper in 2011, especially in PPR formats. He has been going in the 10th round this summer and is a good pick as early as the 9th. Assuming Reggie Bush is released, there will be plenty of extra targets for Moore, Marques Colston, Jimmy Graham, Robert Meachem and Pierre Thomas.
