Scouting report

NYG RB Rashad Jennings - Week 12, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Washington

Rashad Jennings has been inconsistent this season, but he remains the starting back in New York and gets the most carries out of anyone in the Giants backfield. Prior to the bye week, Jennings had 51 yards on 13 touches, including a pair of receptions.

This week, Jennings should continue to get the bulk of the touches against a Washington run defense that ranks 30th in the league in rushing yards allowed this season. Only the Chargers and the Saints allow more yards per carry than Washington, so if Jennings gets another 13 touches, he may be in store for a surprisingly decent output. He’s risky because you never know how much he’s going to touch the ball, but in a season where running backs are dropping like flies, the matchup makes Jennings a decent fallback option as a low-end RB2 with upside.

NYG RB Rashad Jennings - Week 10, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. New England

Rashad Jennings had 13 carries for only 48 yards last week against the Bucs, as the Giants offense sputtered at times. He’s been a very inconsistent fantasy option this year, with the Giants using a committee approach at times in the backfield. He remains the starter and the back that gets the most carries each week, but because he doesn’t get a full workload each week, it’s hard to trust him.

Only the Jets have allowed less rushing yardage to opposing teams this year than the Patriots, so Jennings may have his work cut out for him. That statistic is a little misleading, because teams so often need to abandon the run game against a high-scoring offense, but in a game that should feature passing and Jennings getting inconsistent touches, he’s a RB3 option at best in most leagues.

NYG RB Rashad Jennings - Week 9, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Tampa Bay

Rashad Jennings had 85 yards last week combined off of 10 carries and a pair of receptions. Jennings looked effective against the Saints and he remains the starter in New York, even though he loses touches and snaps to other backs on the Giants roster.

This week, Jennings will face a Bucs defense that has only allowed five rushing touchdowns this season and has allowed 17 passing touchdowns. Expect Jennings to have another middling day, putting up enough production to make him a low end RB3 option in most leagues, but not enough to make him a difference maker in any league.

NYG RB Rashad Jennings - Week 8, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at New Orleans

Rashad Jennings only had five carries and 19 yards last week. He was only the main back for about 25 percent of the team’s rushing attempts and was only on the field for just 11 of the team’s 53 snaps. The Giants have now added a fourth back, Orleans Darkwa, into their rotation, hurting the value of all three other Giants backs.

Jennings is still technically the starter and he faces a Saints team that has allowed the fifth-most yards per game this year to opposing rushers. Because of this, and because he still catches passes better than the average back, he has some value in deep leagues, but his inconsistent usage is alarming and fantasy owners should stay away from the Giants backfield if possible.

NYG RB Rashad Jennings - Week 7, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Dallas

Rashad Jennings had 13 carries for 63 yards last week against the Eagles and added 20 more yards on three receptions for a modest fantasy total. Jennings has been outplaying the other two backs on the Giants roster the past couple of weeks, which bodes well for him moving forward.

This week, Jennings will go up against the Cowboys, who have allowed the fourth least amount of rushing yards so far this season, but have allowed seven touchdowns to opposing running backs. Jennings still splits carries in New York, which limits his fantasy value, but he should be good enough to warrant a low-end RB2/flex spot in most leagues.

NYG RB Rashad Jennings - Week 6, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Philadelphia

Rashad Jennings had 11 carries and four receptions for a total of 67 yards against the 49ers last week. He remains the starter in New York, even if his workload gets cut into by Shane Vereen, and sometimes Andre Williams. Still, he was on the field nearly four times as much as Williams was last week, which bodes well for him for the remainder of the season.

This week, Jennings should get another dozen touches or so, but he’s going up against a Philly defense that has been top-10 in rushing yards allowed this season and has only given up one rushing touchdown. Fantasy owners can plug him in as a RB2 or flex option in very deep leagues, but he’s risky and should more likely stay on the bench with a tough matchup and continuing questions about the dependability of his workload.

NYG RB Rashad Jennings - Week 5, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. San Francisco

Rashad Jennings had a 51 yard touchdown reception last week against the Bills, which inflated his fantasy total for the week. Aside from that play, he only had nine carries and one catch for 41 total yards. He continues to split carries with Andre Williams and Shane Vereen is in the mix as well, hurting his fantasy value.

This week, Jennings has a nice matchup against a 49ers team that has allowed six rushing touchdowns so far this season, less than only the Falcons. Jennings is a risky option because he probably won’t touch the ball more than a dozen times, but he has some deep league value with a nice matchup, hanging out just outside our top 30 this week.
