Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall is likely still a week away from being healthy enough to return to game action, but when he does, the former first-round pick will assume his starting role.

RB coach Kirby Wilson told the Trib on Wednesday that Mendenhall “has the whole package, so that’s your guy,” despite recent success by Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer.

“Rashard has always been our lead dog and our top runner,” Wilson said.

Fantasy Impact:

Dwyer should be back for Week 10, so he and Isaac Redman will likely form a RBBC with the healthier Redman taking a lead role. HC Mike Tomlin said, "Whoever's effective, they'll get the ball." The Chiefs present a pretty good matchup.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin: RB Jonathan Dwyer should return this week.

Fantasy Impact:

Only problem is, like Dwyer, Isaac Redman is coming off a big game last time he played, which was last week when Dwyer as inactive. Dwyer's performance in weeks 7 and 8 was just as solid, which means it's a cloudy fantasy picture at RB heading into Monday night against the Chiefs. To make matters worse from a fantasy perspective, Rashard Mendenhall is also in the mix and listed as questionable for this week. The pecking order when all three were healthy was Mendy, Redman and Dwyer, but it remains to be seen if anything has changed.

A football team has a controversy when it has three guys at one position who can't play well enough to help it win. What the Steelers have at running back is a luxury. "A blessing," tackle Max Starks called it Sunday night. "We have three guys who could start for just about any other team in the NFL. All three are dynamic guys."

Fantasy Impact:

This week it was Redman who carried the load while Mendenhall and Dwyer were out. This RB situation could come down to whoever is healthy as all three have battled injuries and have been inactive. Should all three be healthy, the order would likely be Mendenhall, Redman and Dwyer.
