In need of another running back, the Redskins are signing Byron Marshall of the Eagles practice squad, according to a person with knowledge of the situation on Tuesday.

Washington has just two healthy running backs on the active roster after Rob Kelley suffered a medial collateral ligament sprain and aggravated his sprained ankle in Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Kelley left the locker room on crutches and a walking boot on his left foot. Redskins Coach Jay Gruden said on Monday that Kelley is expected to miss a few weeks following a MRI exam.

That left the Redskins with only rookie Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson at running back. They previously had Mack Brown as their fourth back, but they waived him on Oct. 28 to add depth to their depleted offensive line. Two days later, Brown was claimed by the Vikings. Washington has since worked out a number of running backs to have a third option on the practice squad, but never signed one.
