GB TE Robert Tonyan - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Detroit Lions
Robert Tonyan gets a matchup against the Lions defense in Week 9, a unit that struggles to contain pretty much every position on the field, including tight end. The Lions rank as the third best matchup for tight ends according to our schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed metric. Tonyan's production has been sporadic this year, but he has a chance to turn in one of his best fantasy performances of the year in Week 9 given the matchup and the fact that the Lions should be able to keep pace with the Packers on the scoreboard to some extent. Tonyan makes for a low-end TE1 or strong streaming option this week.

GB TE Robert Tonyan - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Buffalo Bills
Robert Tonyan crashed back to earth after his ten-reception, 90-yard performance in Week 7 by recording three catches for 32 scoreless yards against Washington in Week 8. Tonyan has hovered on the TE1 borderline most weeks this season, but he carries a low floor like most of Green Bay's skill players in what has been an inconsistent offense. Tonyan has a role in the offense which makes him a streaming candidate, but the occasional spike week is about the best we can hope for with him. Week 8 presents the entire Green Bay offense with a brutal matchup facing off with the Bills in Buffalo. Tonyan can be started, but a successful week will likely rely on increased volume due to negative game script.

GB TE Robert Tonyan - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Washington Commanders
Robert Tonyan broke out in Week 6 when he played 67% of Green Bay's offensive snaps, his highest rate of the season, and caught 10 of 12 targets for 90 scoreless yards. That line placed him as the weekly TE4 in fantasy. Tonyan has been eased into things following his ACL tear last season, but Green Bay is in need of playmakers on offense and Tonyan has shown a solid rapport with Aaron Rodgers in the past. The Jets have been about average against opposing tight ends, and Tonyan's progression in recent weeks warrants real consideration of him as a TE1 starter this week.

GB TE Robert Tonyan - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. New York Jets
Robert Tonyan is only seeing a 12.1% target share and has played more than 50% of Green Bay's offensive snaps in one game this season. Tonyan's five red zone targets rank within the top ten at his position, but Tonyan is stuck as a part-time player in a slow offense that lacks for explosive plays. The Jets defense has actually been pretty good at slowing fantasy production for opposing tight ends, making Tonyan a desperation play in fantasy reliant on the hope that he happens to find the end zone this week.

GB TE Robert Tonyan - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. New York Giants (London)
Robert Tonyan salvaged his fantasy day with a 20-yard touchdown catch against the Patriots in Week 4, but he only caught one other ball for two more yards. Tonyan is running a healthy amount of routes as the season progresses, but he has yet to command a workable target share to fit into the TE1 picture in fantasy. Tonyan has only attracted 12.7% of Aaron Rodgers' targets on the year with an aDOT of 2.8. Those numbers add up to a player whose fantasy value hinges entirely on touchdowns and is capable of posting a zero in the box score any given week. Tonyan may ramp things up as he returns from last year's injury, but for now he's a shaky streamer at best.

GB TE Robert Tonyan - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Robert Tonyan continues to play a limited role in the Green Bay offense as he is eased back in following an ACL tear last season. In Week 2, Tonyan only saw two targets and caught both of them for 11 scoreless yards. Until he is installed as a more regular part of the passing game, Tonyan is not worthy of starting in fantasy leagues.

GB TE Robert Tonyan - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Chicago Bears
Robert Tonyan only played on 36% of Green Bay's snaps in Week 1, but in that limited workload he collected five targets, catching three of them for 36 yards. Aaron Rodgers looks for Tonyan when he is actually on the field. Assuming Tonyan's limited snap share is simply him being worked in slowly following a serious injury last season, we can expect his playing time and production to increase with time. It is difficult to trust Tonyan as a starting option on such limited usage, but his snap count and any potential trend upward is worth monitoring in a Green Bay offense desperate for playmakers in the passing game.
