Alfred Morris says bruised ribs are 'fine'

Tailback Alfred Morris said Monday that the bruised ribs he suffered during the Washington Redskins’ victory Sunday at Oakland were sore but he does not regard the injury as serious.

Morris said the injury was “fine” and added: “I mean, a little tender still but nothing serious so I’m all good.”

According to Morris, X-rays showed no breaks. He said he was hurt earlier during the game before coming out for good and being replaced by backup Roy Helu Jr.

Fantasy Impact:

The Skins have a bye this week so the extra time off will be just want Morris needs - he looks like a good bet for Week 6. Owners should still make it a priority to pickup Helu as a handcuff on this week's waiver wire, though.

Redskins RB Alfred Morris says he is fine. No breaks in his ribs, which is what HC Mike Shanahan said. Morris says it's just a bruise. Will be ready for Dallas (Week 6).

Fantasy Impact:

The Skins are on a bye in Week 5 so the timing is good for Morris. Owners should considering making room for Roy Helu as a handcuff as we've often heard players say they will be back and then are held out. The extra time off will do Morris well though.

Roy Helu has secured a spot on the Washington Redskins’ season-opening roster as a backup tailback behind starter Alfred Morris, according to offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.

Fantasy Impact:

Helu could have some value in PPR formats as Morris didn't show a whole lot in the passing game in 2012. Morris has reportedly been working on that part of his game and could emerge as a viable third-down back. Helu would step in if that doesn't pan out.

According to the Washington Post, the Redskins will have some tough decisions to make as far as RB cuts go:

Keiland Williams seems to have overtaken Evan Royster, having gotten more opportunities and tasting success, as well. Rookies Chris Thompson and Jawan Jamison haven’t done a lot. Thompson has two fumbles, but could help himself with special teams play – mainly returns. Not sure you can justify keeping four running backs, though.

Alfred Morris is the starter while Roy Helu is the third-down back and RB2.
