DEN QB Russell Wilson - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Kansas City Chiefs
Week 17 will bring a merciful end to Russell Wilson's inaugural fantasy season as a Bronco. Wilson heads into Week 17 ranked 21st in fantasy points per game amongst quarterbacks, and the fact that he is that high is largely a product of his strong performance in Week 14 which has proven to be an outlier in an otherwise disastrous season. While the matchup metrics look inviting against the Chiefs this Sunday, the Broncos' impossibly bad offensive metrics are more concerning in a game they are projected to lose by multiple touchdowns. At the end of the day, Wilson has been brutal this year and should not be counted on as anything close to a fantasy starter in Week 17.

DEN QB Russell Wilson - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Los Angeles Rams
The Broncos secured a win last week with Russell Wilson inactive largely due to the good fortune of getting to face a Cardinals' team that just lost Kyler Murray for the year, and therefore had to rely on a combination of Colt McCoy and Trace McSorley under center. Wilson looks set to return in Week 16 for a road matchup against the reeling Rams, who have been devastated by injuries this season. Wilson had his best game of the season in Week 14 before suffering a concussion, but the fact remains his overall play this season has been exceedingly poor. He currently ranks 15th at his position with 7.1 yards per attempt, but has only thrown 11 touchdowns on the year, which ranks 26th in the NFL. The Rams are having a down season, but their defense still ranks slightly above average in terms of slowing opposing passing games. Wilson is no more than a mediocre QB2 this week and should be avoided as a starter if possible.

DEN QB Russell Wilson - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Russell Wilson logged another complete dud in Week 13 when he threw for 189 scoreless yards on 22 attempts against the Ravens. Wilson has thrown eight touchdowns through 11 games, a remarkably bad statistic for a quarterback of his pedigree. There are people on social media tracking whether Wilson will manage to throw as many touchdowns as he has bathrooms in his home (12) this season, and unbelievably it looks like it will be a close call. The Broncos will have to at least try to move the ball through the air this week taking on the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, but we're not sure that's a good thing given the way Wilson has played this year. He is a low-end QB2 in fantasy and should be avoided as a starting option whenever possible.

DEN QB Russell Wilson - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Baltimore Ravens
Russell Wilson had an impressively bad game in Week 12. Wilson somehow managed only 142 yards on 35 attempts, barely eclipsing the 4.0 YPA mark. He entered the second half with 53 scoreless yards. His only touchdown of the day came in garbage time when the Panthers were simply trying to run out the clock (and was largely the product of a roughing the passer penalty on fourth down). There really isn't much left to say about Wilson at this point besides pointing out the obvious: he is having a terrible season and the Broncos' offense is bordering on useless for fantasy purposes. The offense's ineptitude boiled over on the sidelines last week as a Broncos defender was seen screaming at Wilson as they passed each other after a change of possession. A Week 13 matchup on the road in Baltimore is unlikely to bring Wilson, or Denver's fans, any relief. Wilson is irrelevant for fantasy outside of deep superflex leagues, an astonishing thing to write in 2022.

DEN QB Russell Wilson - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Carolina Panthers
Russell Wilson's dreadful season rambled on in Week 11 as the Broncos lost on a walk-off overtime touchdown and he only managed 247 scoreless yards against a bad Raiders defense. The Broncos currently rank last in the NFL in both touchdowns and points per game. Russ gets the Panthers on the road this week. Carolina does not have a great defense, but they still offer more resistance than the Raiders on a weekly basis and Wilson has struggled against multiple bad defenses already this season. We're long past the point of tossing out our priors on Wilson and the Broncos' offense, and fantasy expectations need to be adjusted to reflect the fact that Denver has one of the league's worst offenses. Wilson is a QB2 and nothing more as we head into Week 12.

DEN QB Russell Wilson - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Week 10 brought us another forgettable performance from Russell Wilson with 286 yards on 42 pass attempts to go along with a single touchdown and an interception. Wilson has a single QB1 finish in fantasy this season, which came way back in Week 4 when he played the very same Raiders team he gets in Week 11. The matchup is nice for Wilson this week, but he has struggled in similar spots on multiple occasions this year in what has been a disastrous debut season in Denver. Also working against Wilson this week is Jerry Jeudy's ankle issue, which looks set to take away one of his main targets in the passing game. Even in one of the more plush matchups Wilson will get all year, he can only be trusted as a QB2 for fantasy purposes.

DEN QB Russell Wilson - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Tennessee Titans
Coming off the bye week, Russell Wilson will travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans and is hopefully now 100% healthy after dealing with some nagging ailments in the first half of the season. The Titans have a below-average pass defense, but the efficiency concerns for Wilson will continue until he shows he can consistently move the ball through the air and convert red zone opportunities, both areas where the Broncos have struggled this year. The Titans are dealing with some quarterback uncertainty, and the Vegas betting total on Wilson's matchup with the Titans is down to a measly 38 points. In what projects as a low-scoring rock fight, Wilson is merely a QB2 as we head into the home stretch.
