Scouting report

PHI QB Sam Bradford - Week 3, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Detroit

Sam Bradford threw for 224 yards and a TD last week, but did throw two interceptions and also fumbled. If you watched this game, it was an ugly performance and Bradford looked lost. The team couldn't get the run game going, which has really shut down this normally fast-paced offense.

News broke Wednesday that DeMarco Murray is having an MRI on his hamstring, so the Eagles could be without a key piece on offense against the Jets. Meanwhile, the Jets looked great on Monday night, holding the Colts to just seven points. It all adds up to a very low ranking for Bradford this week as he comes in just 18th among our QBs, as the Jets are seventh in allowing fantasy points to quarterbacks. On paper, this doesn't bode well and fantasy owners may want to look at another option. The good news is the Eagles schedule is favorable for Bradford after this week with matchups against the Redskins, Saints and Giants.

PHI QB Sam Bradford - Week 2, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Dallas

Sam Bradford wasn't supposed to throw 52 times last week, but he put up usable fantasy numbers with 336 yards and a TD. He did throw two interceptions, however.

Bradford is capable of putting up fantasy numbers in the Eagles high-powered offense, but admittedly, the Birds probably don't want him dropping back that many times. This week, Bradford is a low-end QB1 in a good matchup against the Cowboys. Dallas is 18th in fantasy points allowed to QBs, and with the Birds at home coming off a loss, this is potentially a nice matchup.

PHI QB Sam Bradford - Week 1, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Atlanta
The big question for Sam Bradford owners is if he stay healthy in 2015. Assuming he can, the 27-year-old is capable of doing what he did in preseason Week 3, which was light up a defense with strong, accurate throws. Bradford is still getting back to playing shape, but owners should be encourage by what they saw in the preseason.

Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez have all been successful in Chip Kelly's offense and put up fantasy numbers too, so there's no reason why Bradford won't either. He just needs to stay on the field. Bradford is ranked 16th among our QBs as the Falcons are just 23rd in allowing fantasy points to signal callers. The only thing hold back Bradford this week may be the Falcons porous rushing defense, as it's possible the Eagles go with a heavy dose of the run.

PHI QB Sam Bradford - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Sam Bradford is coming into a QB-friendly Eagles system that has seen Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez put up serviceable fantasy numbers under HC Chip Kelly. Bradford has a fairly strong arm and is a good fit for the Kelly's offense due to his accuracy. While the aforementioned QBs have played well, the Eagles are looking for a QB to not leave plays on the field and the hope is Bradford's accuracy prevents that. Overall, he has looked good in camp so far.

Fantasy Downside
Bradford's injuries are a big issue for the Eagles and for fantasy owners. Those who take a chance on him will have to keep in mind he has had two ACL injuries and didn't get to play a regular season game last year. Rust could be an issue as the team is taking it very easy on him through the early stages of camp.

Bottom Line
If you're looking to wait at the QB position, Bradford could be your guy. There is some upside there if you're not afraid of the injury potential. Bradford is our QB16, so the risk is minimized as he isn't likely to be drafted as a QB1 option.

STL QB Sam Bradford - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
After suffering an ACL injury in Week 7 last year, Bradford has been able to practice in full during camp and will see his first preseason action in the second week. While rehabbing his lower body during the offseason, Bradford was able to add upper body strength and the added velocity on his throws is noticeable. He's also taking more shots down field in practice, which has been one of the knocks on Bradford over the last few seasons, as he's often referred to as "Captain Checkdown" by his detractors. For the first time in his career, he also could have a bona fide receiving corps led by a resurgent Kenny Britt, who has had an outstanding camp thus far. There's no debating that Bradford has the physical tools to succeed and now that he's in his third year in Brian Schottenheimer's offense, he may finally be ready to turn the corner in his fifth season.

Fantasy Downside
Durability has been an issue for Bradford dating back to his days at Oklahoma when he suffered a shoulder injury during his Junior season. As a pro, he's missed 15 games over the past four years and is coming off major reconstructive knee surgery. While some will point to his lack of weapons and the fact that he had to learn three different offenses in his first three years in St. Louis, the fact remains that Bradford has yet to put up eye-popping numbers throughout his career. His YPA is a meager 6.3 as he's often criticized for not taking more shots downfield. Plus, the Rams are fully committed to being a run-first team in 2014, which will likely cap his scoring potential.

Bottom Line
Bradford ranks as our 25th overall quarterback and he can be had as late as the 16th round in both standard and PPR formats. At this point he's a low-end QB2 with a ceiling of that of a high QB2. Even with the addition of Britt and the continued development of Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey, it's highly unlikely that Bradford is going to put up enough numbers in St. Louis' run-first attack to merit a fantasy roster spot. If he starts strong, you could also search for him on your waiver wire during the season.
