Scouting report

BUF WR Sammy Watkins - Week 11, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at New England

After returning from injury, Sammy Watkins has had mixed results the last two games. His targets have been steady, but he exploded for 168 yards and a touchdown two weeks ago and then only had three catches for 14 yards last week.

The matchup is favorable for Buffalo wide receivers as New England is 21st in aFPA to wide receivers. But it's hard to say which Sammy Watkins will show up this week, as consistency has been a major problem in his first two seasons in the NFL. We rate Watkins a low-end WR2 for Week 11, as he should put up some decent fantasy numbers to help your team.

BUF WR Sammy Watkins - Week 10, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at New York Jets

The oft-injured Sammy Watkins turned in his best game of the season last week with some amazing stats. He was targeted eight times and caught all eight targets for 168 yards and a touchdown. If he can stay on the field, Watkins should have a very good second half of the season, as he is an elite talent.

Things won't be that easy this week against a good Jets secondary. We can probably expect Darrelle Revis on Watkins this week, which will limit his output. Start Watkins for Week 10, but only as a WR3 or flex player.

BUF WR Sammy Watkins - Week 9, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs Dolphins

Sammy Watkins is still being bothered by the ankle injury that has kept him off the field since October 18th. He should play, but you might want to keep an eye on the inactives list on Sunday. Even if he does play, he has struggled this season with only 11 receptions -- not exactly what the Bills expected when they drafted him in the 1st round.

Watkins will face the Miami defense this weekend, which is 19th in aFPA to wide receivers, but he is definitely a fantasy risk because of the injury and the production so far this year. Keep Watkins on the bench for Week 9.

BUF WR Sammy Watkins - Week 6, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs Bengals
Sammy Watkins did not play again last week with a calf injury. He says he will be back Sunday, but is still listed as questionable and Coach Rex Ryan says the team will wait and see.

If Watkins is back, his fantasy value will remain low. QB Tyrod Taylor is expected out and that means E.J. Manuel will get the start which will not be good for all Bills offensive skill players.

Keep Watkins on the bench no matter what his status is Sunday against the Bengals.

BUF WR Sammy Watkins - Week 3, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Dolphins

After being shut out in Week 1, Sammy Watkins bounced back with six catches for 60 yards and more important, his first touchdown of the season (yes, it was garbage time, but you take what you can get as a fantasy owner). The Bills made a more conscious effort to get him involved in the offense and even though the numbers aren't earth-shattering, they are much better than the opener.

Watkins struggled in the game at Miami last year, so this week's matchup is fairly neutral. Watkins is rated a low-end WR2 for Week 2. He should be a starter in all leagues, but definitely needs to step up his game.

BUF WR Sammy Watkins - Week 2, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs Patriots

If the first week is any indication of which direction Buffalo's offense is going to go, it is not good news for Sammy Watkins owners. The second-year receiver had zero catches and only 3 targets against the Colts. The Bills only attempted 19 passes and will let QB Tyrod Taylor be a game manager, at least early in the season.

Watkins will face a Patriots secondary that is questionable. If Buffalo does decide to look Watkins way more this week, he could have some decent production. But we don't think that will be the Bills game plan, so keep Watkins on the bench for Week 2 in all formats.

BUF WR Sammy Watkins - Week 1, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs Colts
The Bills passing game will rely on Sammy Watkins to be a play maker, but how effective will new QB Tyrod Taylor be? Watkins sat out a lot of training camp due to injury, but Buffalo has said he is almost 100% so we will assume that's not a factor. Indianapolis is not a good matchup for wide receivers, so Watkins should probably be in your lineup solely due to his potential. That said, he only ranks a low-end WR3 for Week 1.
