The Lions are saying that Stafford could have played against the Giants a couple of weeks ago, but they wanted him to get more practice time in order to get his timing back with his receivers. The Lions are tweaking their protection packages to make sure that Washington’s Brian Orakpo doesn’t rattle Stafford. Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall, who tied an NFL record with four interceptions last week, will have Johnson much of the day.

On the flip side, the Lions will put CB Chris Houston on Washington WR Santana Moss. You can bet that Donovan McNabb will be looking to go deep to Anthony Armstrong, plus he feels good about finding TE Chris Cooley on underneath routes as long as he gets time against Detroit’s solid pass rush. If it’s close, don’t forget that Jason Hanson has kicked 438 field goals, fifth all-time.

Dr. Anthony Galea was indicted on smuggling charges by a federal grand jury in Buffalo on Thursday, meaning that Washington Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss might eventually have to testify in his case.

Moss told teammates last spring that he was treated by Galea three times, but he never knowingly was administered HGH.

"There are no athletes charged with criminal activity," U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. told the Buffalo News. "They are viewed as witnesses, rather than as defendants, in this case. Any one of these athletes treated by Dr. Galea could be called as trial witnesses."

If Moss has to testify, the details of his relationship with Galea might be publicized. And if it is proven that Moss put into his body a substance banned by the NFL, he could face a four-game suspension.

Regarding his availability to the Redskins in the short-term, though, it's fairly safe to assume that the NFL wouldn't take any action against players until the legal process with Galea has played out, and that could be a while. No date has been set for his trial.

The Redskins, meanwhile, are totally confident Moss' availability will not be affected by this matter.

Today's print-edition story focused on the Redskins' lack of production from players not named Santana Moss or Chris Cooley. The two receivers behind Moss - Joey Galloway and Anthony Armstrong - are tied with seven receptions apiece entering Sunday's game against the Colts.

Since Armstrong's 84-yard performance last week against Green Bay, there's been a lot more chatter among fans about the team's No. 2 receiver spot. Galloway has started opposite Moss for all five games this season, though Armstrong has been building a compelling case for more playing time.

Asked whether Armstrong might be ready to start, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said, "He was in the starting lineup last week."

Defensively, the Packers must contain Donovan McNabb, a nemesis of theirs when he played for the Philadelphia Eagles. McNabb scrambled for some key runs last week and the Packers have allowed opposing quarterbacks to rush for 205 yards on 21 carries after four games. With Green Bay so intent on rushing the quarterback, they are leaving so much room underneath whenever they use only two defensive linemen. It’s a scheme problem because the Packers are using so many young secondary players. Charles Woodson has been gambling more, but it has been paying off. Woodson will line up against Redskins WR Santana Moss much of the game. RB Ryan Torain starts for Clinton Portis, who could miss as many as six games.
