Week 1 vs. Chiefs

Stephen Gostkowski opens the season on Thursday night against Kansas City as a top-three fantasy kicker option for Week 1. He only missed two field goals at home last season and remains an elite kicker in one of the NFL's best offenses.

Fantasy Upside

Stephen Gostkowski is fourth all-time in kicking accuracy, making him one of the elite kicker options in fantasy football.

Fantasy Downside

Despite upper echelon expectations, Gostkowski only finished ninth in standard kicker scoring last year. His five missed field goals were the most for him since 2012; however, two of those were from 50+ yards. He also missed three extra points, after not missing any at the new, longer distance in 2015.

2017 Bottom Line

Gostkowski was the poster boy last year on why you do not draft a kicker before the final two rounds of your draft. He was one of the first kickers taken but barely cracked the top 10 at the end of the year. However, he's again an elite option. Just don't take him instead of a meaningful QB, RB, WR or TE.

Stephen Gostkowski, aka Kicker Gronk, has finished as the number-one kicker in fantasy four years in a row. He is our first ranked kicker, and that is right in line with ADP.

Fantasy Downside
The Patriots score a lot of touchdowns, thus limiting field goal opportunities.

2016 Bottom Line
Sure, draft Gostkowski, just do it in the last round of your draft.

In some formats, Stephen Gostowski enters the 2015 season riding a three-year streak of finishing as the top fantasy kicker. We have him ranked as K2 this offseason, but it's hard to go wrong with this great kicker in this great offense.

We never advocate for taking a kicker too early -- even when that kicker is Gostowski.
