The Chargers have agreed on a 2-year deal with running back Danny Woodhead.

Fantasy Impact:

Woodhead is very good in the passing game and is an underrated runner (4.8 YPC). He's likely to serve as the Chargers' third-down back, which will put a dent in the value of Ryan Mathews. As for the Patriots, they'll move forward with the emerging Shane Vereen and the recently signed Leon Washington at RB behind Stevan Ridley.

When the ball slipped from RB Stevan Ridley’s grasp early in the Patriots’ Week 15 loss to the 49ers this season, there were some fans of the team who started to wonder: Is he headed for a repeat of 2011?

Upon further review, the fumble was not a fumble—it was determined that Ridley was down before the ball came out. He did fumble later in the game, but it was the type of fumble a player can’t do much about: San Francisco safety Donte Whitner, running at full stride, put the crown of his helmet right on the end of the ball and it popped out.

Ridley was holding the ball high and tight, so his coaches couldn’t find fault with that play, but the fumble that wasn’t and Ridley’s goal-line fumble a week earlier against Houston were enough. In the days leading up to the game in Jacksonville, Ridley was forced to relive the plays again and again in the film room.

What will Patriots coach Bill Belichick do with Stevan Ridley, a 1,000-yard back? How will he deal with Ridley’s fumblitis this year, with the playoffs right around the corner?

Last year, Belichick sent then-rookie Ridley to the pine after two straight games with fumbles late in the year. What will Belichick do this time around?

The coach will give Ridley the rock. At least, that is what we believe the hooded wonder will do with his talented, yet fumble-prone back.

While Belichick is about as fond of turnovers as providing medical updates, he knows Ridley’s value to the offense. The Patriots need what Ridley brings to the table. Ridley has been a game-changer this season.

Fantasy Impact:

Ridley certainly carries risk heading into Sunday's game agains Jacksonville. Belichick is not above using lesser talents (Danny Woodhead, Brandon Bolden) who have proven to have better ball security. Don't expect the tight-lipped Patriots to answer this question before Sunday.
