Fantasy Upside
Last year was a forgettable one for Terrance West, as he stared the year with the Titans and ended with the Ravens. He has been very competitive in camp however, and early reports out of Baltimore indicate that he’s been the more impressive of the backs vying for touches in the Ravens backfield. West is a powerful runner who showed some potential in Cleveland as a rookie in 2014. If he earns time, he could be productive.
Fantasy Downside
West has only averaged 3.9 yards per carry over his first two years, and he failed to the find the end last season. He also isn’t much of a receiver, with only 15 career receptions. West is unlikely to win the starting job over Justin Forsett, so he’ll be competing with the versatile Javorius Allen and rookie Kenneth Dixon for a job, and may even need to beat out Lorenzo Taliaferro if the Ravens don’t leave him on the PUP list to start the season.
2016 Bottom Line
West is an intriguing option if he ends up in a lead back role, but he has so much competition for that spot that it’s hard to justify drafting him in most leagues. Larger leagues with enough bench slots to stash a player might be a good place for him, but most owners should just keep an eye on the Baltimore situation and be ready on the waiver wire in case Forsett gets hurt again.
Update:
With Forsett now off the roster, West and Dixon will battle it out for the starting job, and West has to be considered the favorite early in the season because of Dixon's struggles staying healthy. West is now a nice mid-late round option with high upside, especially in standard leagues.
