WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Arizona Cardinals

Week 3 finally saw Terry McLaurin emerge from the fantasy doldrums, with four grabs for 100 yards and a touchdown. McLaurin posted 18.0 Half PPR points and finished as the WR10 for the week.

While we shouldn't expect such fireworks every week, his matchup in Week 4 against the Cardinals should allow him to remain somewhat fantasy-relevant, It's just lovely know that we can expect him to be in the WR2 mix after a rocky start to the year.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Cincinnati Bengals
Fantasy managers of a certain age may be able to remember when Terry McLaurin was a valuable asset on his own offense and on most people’s fantasy rosters. Those days are gone, it seems. McLaurin did see eight targets in Week 2 and caught six of them, but he managed a paltry 22 yards, finishing with 5.2 Half PPR points and behind 52 other WRs in weekly scoring.

The Bengals have allowed the 29th most receptions and receiving yards to wide receivers so far this season. It’s sad to say, but if you need anything more than low-end WR numbers from McLaurin this week, you’re likely to be disappointed.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs New York Giants

Week 1 of the 2024 season will not be a week held long in the memory of Terry McLaurin, or his fantasy managers. McLaurin was targetted just four times on his way to two grabs for 17 yards, an output that saw him finish as the WR77 in Half PPR scoring.

Week 2 might be better, with a matchup against the Giants on the slate. The Giants allowed 115 yards and two touchdowns to the Vikings wide receivers a week ago...on just eight catches. Still, it's hard to get too excited about McLaurin, and he certainly shouldn't be viewed as an elite option. He should be viewed as a WR3 this week.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Terry McLaurin heads into another season hoping that this will be the year he is tethered to a quarterback who will make the best use of his talent. The Commander's offense, helmed by Jayden Daniels, should make heavy use of RPOs, and research has shown that primary receivers in RPO-based offenses do tend to command high workloads. That would be welcome for McLaurin and his fantasy managers this season. If he can see a decent workload in Week 1 against the Bucs, he should be able to make some fantasy noise. The Bucs did rank 31st in aFPA to wideouts last season. Still, it's hard to project him as anything above a low-end WR3 this week.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Terry McLaurin did not enjoy the greatest 2023 season, it has to be said. He eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards for the fourth season in a row, but he posted career lows in yards per reception (12.7), yards per game (58.9) and catch rate (59.8%). McLaurin finished as the WR36 in Half PPR formats.

McLaurin goes into the season with probably the best quarterback situation of his career (stop me if you've heard that one before) with Jayden Daniels all but certain to earn the starting job ahead of the year. But this upgrade is probably not enough to transform McLaurin into a fantasy superstar, making his ceiling probably a low-tier WR2 at best.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs San Francisco 49ers

Terry McLaurin had an OK outing last week, finishing 3-50 on five targets. McLaurin once again is dealing with a carousel of quarterbacks as Jacoby Brissett is taking over as Washington's starter for Week 17. Brissett targeted McLaurin often in Week 15, leading to a season-high 141 yards for McLaurin (93 of which came with Brissett at QB). Brissett only targeted McLaurin twice last week, but he also had just 13 attempts. This week, McLaurin faces a tough 49ers defense (18th aFPA), but San Francisco hasn't been too hard on WRs in fantasy this year. The change at QB could be a good thing at McLaurin, who should be viewed as a decent WR2 option in Week 17.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at New York Jets

The Commanders' offense looked terrible last week, but Terry McLaurin managed to have his best game of the season, finishing 6-141-1 on 12 targets. Most of McLaurin's success came late in the game after the team benched Sam Howell. In fact, his stat line in the 4th quarter with Jacoby Brissett was 3-93-1, and that only came on two drives. Howell is expected to remain the starter moving forward, but McLaurin owners might want to see Brissett back out there. As for Week 16, McLaurin gets a brutal matchup vs. the Jets (1st aFPA) and Sauce Gardner. McLaurin is a mid-tier WR2 option for Week 16.
