WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at New York Giants

Terry McLaurin is the first WR in NFL history to have 5+ receptions and a touchdown in his first three games. It's a weird stat, but for fantasy purposes, it means he's been involved every single week. In addition to his 5+ receptions and touchdown every week, he's also gone over 60 receiving yards every week. He should be productive again in Week 4 as he faces a favorable matchup against the Giants. New York is allowing the second-most fantasy points to receivers behind only Washington. So it's entirely possible this ends up as a high-scoring game between two bad defenses.

McLaurin is dealing with a hamstring injury, but when Jay Gruden was asked if the receiver was in danger of missing the game, the coach said, "I sure hope not." We like McLaurin as a strong WR2 play.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Chicago Bears

Scary Terry McLaurin proved his Week 1 performance was no fluke. He followed it up with a 5-62-1 performance in Week 2 and is now 12th in the league in receiving yards per game. Even better, he led all Washington players in targets (9) in Week 2, proving he's someone Case Keenum looks to often. He does get a tough matchup against the Bears this week, though. Expect lower production than you've seen from him so far, but he can still be trusted as a decent WR3 choice vs. Chicago.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Dallas Cowboys

"Scary" Terry McLaurin showed he was Case Keenum's favorite option among the receivers in Week 1. He played 93% of the team's offensive snaps and caught five of seven targets for 125 yards and a touchdown. The speedster showed off with a nice 69-yard reception in the game. McLaurin has playmaking ability and should be viewed as the top option in Washington's offense moving forward, but that's not saying a whole lot. He still has a low floor, and should be viewed as a WR3 with upside.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Philadelphia Eagles

The Redskins spent a third-round draft pick on Terry McLaurin and although he won't get a chance to play with his college teammate Dwayne Haskins, he will enter 2019 as a starting receiver. Washington's wideouts are a mess, and it's almost impossible to predict which one of them will break out this season. McLaurin joins Paul Richardson and Trey Quinn as listed starters, and none of them stand out. McLaurin ran a 4.35 40 at the Combine, so his speed makes him promising. But McLaurin, along with the rest of Washington's wideouts, is not much more than a WR5.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - 2019 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Terry McLaurin is a third-round pick from Ohio State who is turning heads at Redskins’ training camp. He has an obvious built-in rapport with incoming rookie QB Dwayne Haskins that could pay off if Washington goes with him. Even if Washington goes with Keenum, McLaurin is a 6-foot receiver with good speed and joins a weak receiving group.

Fantasy Downside
McLaurin wasn’t a huge prospect heading into the NFL Draft. There’s a lot of unknown with him heading into 2019 as Washington has a bunch of similarly-talented wideouts on its roster. Also, rookie wideouts don’t normally shine. Since 1950, only 20 WRs in NFL history have gone over 1,000 yards during their first year.

2019 Bottom Line
McLaurin could be a nice sleeper pick. He’s not a well-known name, and his connection to Haskins from Ohio State could be crucial in his success. Even aside from that, he was a great player in college. He hauled in 71 percent of his targets, which was ninth-best in his class and averaged 14.3 yards per target, which was No. 1 in his class. He also has an opportunity to play right away in Washington.
