Tevin Coleman, the 49ers starting running back, sustained a first-half ankle injury that ruled him out at halftime of the season opener.

The extent of Coleman’s injury is unknown but serious enough to sideline him in a tight contest against the host Buccaneers.

Fantasy Impact: 

If Coleman misses time, Breida likely becomes the main back again while Mostert would also get some work. Jerick McKinnon was again lost for the season after another knee surgery so the 9ers may be in need of another back.

The 49ers list Matt Breida ahead of Tevin Coleman at RB.

Fantasy Impact: 

Depth charts don't always mean a lot but this is a little surprising given the contract the team gave Coleman in free agency. Breida ran well at times last year and stood out this summer too. This is probably going to be some kind of split with perhaps Coleman continuing with his third down, change of pace role.

RB Jerick McKinnon in uniform and practicing for first time since 2-practice cameo couple weeks ago.

Fantasy Impact: 

McKinnon was just about a lock for the IR in some form according to many. He could still be an IR-return candidate if the 9ers put him there after cuts. Either way, McKinnon will have some catching up to do, so at least for now he's still safely behind Breida and Coleman.

Shanahan said a slew of 49ers are on tap to return to practice this week: Among them is Jerick McKinnon.

Fantasy Impact: 

Some who follow the team thought McKinnon could start the year on the IR, but this is at least a sign there's a chance he plays sooner than later. Still, owners will have to deal with Coleman and Breida ahead of him as far as fantasy production goes.
