WR Titus Young was forced to play catchup due to last year's lockout. He struggled early last season while learning on the job, but Young showed his potential after learning Detroit's playbook. Young had four touchdown receptions in Detroit's final four regular season games. He finished the regular season with 48 receptions for 607 yards and six touchdowns. With a full offseason under Young's belt, he could become a reliable No.2 receiver for the Lions.

Fantasy Impact: 

Young had a better Fantasy Points / Target (1.12) than did Nate Burleson (0.84), but Burleson saw 25 more targets (111 vs. 86). For Young to break out, he'll need to see legitimate WR2-type targets. A good indicator for Young was that he was better over the second half of the season than the first, catching more passes (29 vs. 19) for more yards (332 vs. 275) for more TDs (5 vs. 1) at a better catch rate (60.4 vs. 50.0).

The Lions drafted receiver Ryan Broyles with a very specific idea of the role he’d play in their offense next season.
“(He) will be a great fit for us and really helps our offensive skill,” Lions general manager Martin Mayhew told the media after the pick. “(He’s) another receiving weapon for our quarterback and we feel great about the pick.”

The Lions see Broyles as a perfect fit in the slot, and wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson thinks Broyles can excel there.

Fantasy Impact: 

It appears that the Lions plan to use Nate Burleson in the slot this season with Calvin Johnson and Titus Young on the outside. Broyles would eventually take over for Burleson in the slot, but probably not in 2012.

Tough day at the office for rookie receiver Titus Young.

He committed a silly personal-foul penalty that potentially cost the Lions a touchdown in the third quarter. He also cost the team a 20-yard completion to Calvin Johnson in the first half when he lined up wrong, causing an illegal formation.

He was benched for most of the fourth quarter.

It was supposed to take Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young time to make an impact in the NFL. He missed most of training camp with a hamstring injury, didn't have the benefit of an off-season because of the lockout and is playing a receiver position that's typically torture on rookies.

But Young, a second-round pick out of Boise State, has seen his role steadily increase five games into the season and could be in line for even more playing time Sunday with tight end Tony Scheffler out with a concussion.

Young has 14 catches for 195 yards the last four weeks after no receptions in his debut against the Buccaneers in Week 1.

Fantasy Impact: 

Young is still unlikely to make a major impact this week, but with a growing role on a rising team, his time to shine could be coming sooner than anticipated.
