Scouting report

NE QB Tom Brady - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs Detroit
In Week 12, Brady up a respectable 257-2 line while taking a backseat to RB Jonas Gray, who had a day for the ages with 199 yards and four TDs. He completed 19 of 30 passes, though did have two interceptions on the day. Week 11 was Brady's worst fantasy outing since Week 4 and can be viewed as a bit of an outlier, given the rushing volume.

Owners should take note that Week 12's opponent, Detroit, fields the worst matchup for fantasy QBs, via aFPA. However, playing at home in an offense averaging over 45 real football points a game over the last three weeks, we still expect Brady to get back on track for his owners. We have him as a mid-range QB1 this week.

NE QB Tom Brady - Week 11, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at IND

Before the bye, Brady put up another big game against the Broncos with a strong 334-4 line. He also threw a lone interception, his first since Week 4. After a slow start by the entire Patriots offense, Brady is now averaging a 327-4 over the last four games, with only the one turnover in that time.

Coming off the bye with extra preparation, Brady enjoys a matchup against a Colts defense allowing the 10th most aFPA to QBs. With the plus matchup, a game featuring the highest O/U of the weekend, his recent track record and coming off his bye, Brady is locked in as a top 5 option this weekend.

NE QB Tom Brady - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs Denver
Brady owners have to be flying high right now, after his high-flying Week 8 outing. Granted his Week 8 opponent, the Bears and their injury-plagued defense, put up one of their worst performances in franchise history. Nonetheless, you always want to see good players take advantage of good matchups, and that's exactly what Brady did to the tune of a massive 354-5 line. He also completed an amazing 30 passes on only 35 attempts, which includes three drops by his receivers. He's now averaging over 300 yards and 3 TDs a game in the last four weeks, with no turnovers in that span.

We expect Brady to continue this stellar play into his Week 9 outing against Denver. Real football fans always enjoy seeing Brady and Manning "square off" in games, and with Brady playing so brilliantly of late, fake football fans can be just as excited. We have Brady as a top three option this weekend.

NE QB Tom Brady - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs CHI
Brady put up another nice showing last week, with a 37-261-3 line. Over the last three weeks, he's averaging a 36-367-3 line and has no turnovers. The early season struggles seem to be well in his rear view mirror.

This week he faces off against a Bears defense, allowing the 11th most fantasy points to opposing QBs, via aFPA. He should be locked into your lineups until he cools off, and he's our QB8 this week.

NE QB Tom Brady - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs New York Jets
Brady had a very strong showing in Week 6, throwing for 361 yards, 4 TDs, and no turnovers. Rob Gronkowski looking healthy has helped, for sure, but the whole offense finally seems to be functioning at levels we're used to seeing from Brady and the Patriots.

This week Brady faces off against a Jets defense, offering the 6th best fantasy matchup for opposing QBs, via aFPA. We have moved him back into our QB1 ranks this week, and have him at QB9.

NE QB Tom Brady - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Buffalo
Brady had a great showing in Week 5, his strongest showing to date. Brady completed 24 of 35 passes for 292 yards and 2 TDs, adding another 4-13 on the ground. His 292 yards are a high water mark, and this was his first multi-TD game this season. He also had his 2nd highest completion percentage and highest yards per attempt of the season. All in all, a great showing for Brady who finished as QB7 on the week, his best finish this season by a wide margin.

We hope Brady can carry some success into Week 6, but given the tough matchup on the road in Buffalo (5th toughest by aFPA) we rank Brady somewhat cautiously as a midrange QB2. A strong Week 6 showing would be a promising bump to his ROS outlook.

NE QB Tom Brady - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Cincinnati
There's no way around it, Brady's last outing was not good. The entire patriots offense was, to be generous, flat and never found a rhythm. Ultimately Brady finished 14 of 23 for 159 yards, had a 1:2 TD to INT ratio, and was benched in a blowout for Jimmy Garoppolo. It was just not Brady's or the Patriot's day. Unfortunately, we have yet to see the day where the Patriot's offense actually worked together well, and found a fair amount of success. As such, we're concerned about Brady's rest of season value, and have moved him down to QB22 in our ROS ranks.

We also have him as QB21 this week. Brady should be on your bench until Brady's performances, as well as the whole team's performances, improve.
