Chris Johnson wore a visor and T-shirt and stayed busy as Tennessee's top cheerleader.

Drew Brees and Reggie Bush limited their dress rehearsal to putting on their New Orleans' uniforms and pregame warmup before watching from the sideline all night long.

Alvin Pearman 's 5-yard touchdown with 3:18 left helped the Titans beat the Saints 27-24 on Thursday night in the preseason finale where both teams thought of safety first for their key stars.

Vince Young tossed a TD, LeGarrette Blount also ran for a score and Rob Bironas kicked two field goals for Tennessee (2-2).

Carolina’s overhauled defense hardly looked like it missed Julius Peppers during their 15-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans Saturday night in Charlotte, sacking Titans quarterback Vince Young four times, keeping star runner Chris Johnson in check and holding Tennessee to 50 yards in the first half.

Charles Johnson, who took over for Peppers when he signed with Chicago in the offseason, had his way with Titans right tackle David Stewart and notched two of Carolina’s seven sacks.

The Carolina offense, though, is another story.

Quarterback Matt Moore, given the starting job when Jake Delhomme was released in the offseason, had his third straight uninspiring performance. He completed 18 of 33 passes for 190 yards and no interceptions. DeAngelo Williams rushed for just 13 yards on nine carries, and there is still no clear No. 2 receiver opposite Steve Smith.

The Tennessee Titans looked very shaky on offense and managed only seven points against Carolina's defense Saturday night in Charlotte.

Chris Johnson, the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2009, managed just 10 yards on eight carries with little room to roam in his most extensive work of the preseason. He has 39 yards on 19 carries in three games after rushing for 2,006 yards last season.

Quarterback Vince Young, playing the entire first half, completed just 6 of 9 passes for 48 yards under constant pressure. He was sacked four times.

Defensive end Derrick Morgan, the Titans’ first-round pick, had one tackle in his NFL debut as he returned from injury.

The Titans didn’t dress 11 players, including TE Bo Scaife (back), CB Cortland Finnegan (groin) and WR Nate Washington (wrist).
