Scouting report

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs Carolina Panthers

It’s not flashy, but Zach Ertz is doing Yeoman work at the tight end spot in 2024. Ertz is the TE17 for the season in points per game, but he was the TE10 a week ago with 8.8 Half-PPR points. He’s running all the routes, which is pretty much all we can ask for any player outside the elite tier at the position.

Ertz remains a viable streaming option at tight end heading into Week 7. The Panthers rank 19th in aFPA to tight ends this season, and with Ertz operating as Jayden Daniels’ safety valve he should be able to produce low-end TE1 numbers this week.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Baltimore Ravens

Zach Ertz hasn’t exactly blown anyone away this season, but he is among the league leaders in routes run at the tight end position, and to his credit he has (except for Week 5) caught most of the balls sent his way. He’s only averaging 5.3 Half PPR points per game though, but this is still good for TE16.

The Ravens have allowed league highs in receptions and receiving yards to tight ends this season and are ranked 21st in aFPA to tight ends. If game script goes south for the Commanders and Jayden Daniels is forced to take to the air more often than normal, then Ertz could be in for a bigger day than he’s enjoyed previously in 2024. But from a baseline standpoint, he’s hard to trust above a mid-tier TE2.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Cleveland Browns/strong>

Zach Ertz isn't exactly wowing anyone at the moment, it's fair to say. But the veteran has caught all 12 of his targets over the last three games, including three for 33 yards against the Cardinals in Week 4, giving him 5.7 Half PPR points. He finished as the TE16 after those deeds.

The Browns have been a fairly middling unit when it comes to stopping tight end fantasy production in 2024, ranking 15th in aFPA to the position. Ertz is still seeing enough work to keep him interesting, but nowhere near enough to make him a fantasy stud. He's a solid, if seriously unspectacular, TE2 in Week 5.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Arizona Cardinals

Zach Ertz was a steady safety valve for Jayden Daniels in Week 3, catching all five of his targets for 38 yards, although he did commit a fumble. Ertz managed 6.3 Half PPR points, good for TE12 for the week. Not great, but given the current tight end landscape not awful either.

Tight ends haven't done too much against the Cardinals so far this season, but if Ertz continues to see a steady dose of targets he should be able to enjoy his revenge game while helping needy fantasy managers. Ertz remains a low-end TE1, albeit one with very limited upside.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Cincinnati Bengals
Zach Ertz enjoyed a fantasy-relevant week in Week 2, despite only seeing four targets. He caught all of them for 62 yards, giving him 8.2 Half PPR points. This was enough to finish as the TE8 for the week.

The Bengals were bled by tight ends last season, but this season they’ve only allowed six of 11 targets to be completed for 61 yards. Still, Ertz is seeing a healthy enough share of the targets to make him a viable streaming option in Week 3 and should flirt with high-end TE2 numbers.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs New York Giants

Zach Ertz caught three passes for 28 yards against the Buccaneers in Week 1, giving him 4.3 Half PPR points and enough ammo to finish as the TE17.

Ertz has historically done very well against the Giants in his career, and he might be in line for a decent day against them in Week 2. The Giants allowed the Vikings tight ends to combine for 4-42 last week. Ertz won't put up elite numbers, but he should be projected as mid-tier TE2 this week.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Commanders drafted Ben Sinnott this past spring, but the rookie has not been able to displace the trusty veteran Zach Ertz. Ertz's days as a fantasy superstar at the tight end spot are long gone, but he could see enough work to keep him somewhat relevant in the early weeks of the season, and especially in Week 1. The Buccaneers ranked dead last in aFPA to tight ends last season, which should help Ertz towards low-end TE2 numbers to kick off the 2024 season.
