BAL TE Nick Boyle - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Houston Texans

Nick Boyle has quietly led Ravens’ tight ends in snaps this season, and has started to produce over the last couple of weeks. He caught four passes for 78 yards against the Bengals last week and now has two consecutive games with double-digit PPR fantasy points. Lamar Jackson seems to be using his tight ends, so fantasy owners should continue to monitor Boyle’s targets and activity in the offense. He could have some streaming value down the home stretch. For now, though, keep viewing Mark Andrews as the only legitimately viable fantasy option among tight ends in Baltimore and keep Boyle on waivers.

Week 10 at Cincinnati Bengals

Nick Boyle caught five passes and scored a touchdown against the Patriots last week, but only gained 27 yards and will be vying with Mark Andrews each week for looks in the passing game. Boyle was on the field for 82% of the team’s offensive snaps, but don’t look for him to be emphasized in the passing game each week. He’s too risky to start whenever Andrews is active.

Week 4 vs. Cleveland Browns

Nick Boyle led the Ravens with 58 receiving yards last week against the Chiefs, and he caught four of the five balls thrown his way. Boyle is a quality player and a valuable reserve for Baltimore, but he’s unlikely to be a consistent fantasy option. He has only 98 yards on eight receptions through three games and has only been targeted once in the red zone according to our red zone stats app. Boyle would have value if Andrews were to miss next week’s contest after being questionable against the Chiefs, but he’s too risky to warrant a roster spot in most leagues.

Week 3 vs. Denver Broncos

Nick Boyle has led Ravens tight ends with 10 targets over the first two games of the season, but he’s only gained a total of 66 yards on five receptions and seems unlikely to break out in any given week. The Broncos did allow 105 yards and a touchdown to rookie tight end Will Dissly in Week 1, but that was largely due to a 66-yard reception. Boyle should remain on waivers in all league formats.

Fantasy Upside

Nick Boyle was the second tight end for the Ravens for much of last year and ended up with 28 catches and 203 yards. With Ben Watson gone, Boyle will have a chance to compete for increased snaps, if he can beat out rookie Hayden Hurst.

Fantasy Downside

Beating out Hurst may be a tall order, as the Ravens invested a first-round pick in him. Boyle is also built like a blocker at 6-foot-4, 270 pounds. Maxx Williams is also still lurking on the roster, though Boyle outplayed him last year and Williams has struggled to stay healthy.

2018 Bottom Line

Boyle’s upside is limited with Hurst in the fold, as well as the new options Baltimore added in the receiving corps, including Michael Crabtree. There’s no reason to expect Boyle to get an increased number of targets this year, and he should be avoided in all leagues until he distinguishes himself in some way.

Fantasy Upside

Nick Boyle was the only completely healthy TE coming out of training camp, so he has an outside chance of winning the starting job. Entering his third season out of Delaware, Boyle has had limited action in his short NFL career, but did catch 18 passes in 2015, and had 11 touchdowns over his final two seasons in college. Boyle is a huge target at 6-foot-4, 270 pounds, and his size might give him a leg up on the starting spot.

Fantasy Downside

With a crowded depth chart, Boyle will need to have a good preseason and some luck to win the job. Veteran Ben Watson is expected to earn his role back after missing last season, and the Ravens invested a second round pick in Maxx Williams just two years ago.

2017 Bottom Line

Boyle’s value could increase if he wins the job, and the Baltimore TE position is worth watching to see if anyone emerges. However, until Boyle actually produces in a regular season NFL game and pulls away from the pack officially, it’s hard to recommend having him on a roster. There’s too much depth at TE in most fantasy leagues to be taking a flier on Boyle right now, and owners should likely stay away from drafting Ravens at that position.

BAL TE Nick Boyle - Week 6, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at San Francisco
Nick Boyle caught all three passes thrown his way last week against the Browns, but he wound up with just 27 yards. He was on the field for 76 percent of the Ravens offensive snaps, however, which bodes well for him should starter Crockett Gilmore continue to miss time. Either way, rookie Maxx Williams will continue to get looks and eat into Boyle’s potential, and neither player has shown enough consistency to warrant serious fantasy consideration. He remains a solid dynasty stash at best at this point.
