Brent Celek

Fantasy Upside
Brent Celek has been the kind of veteran presence any team would want at the tight end position. Celek is an excellent blocker which can keep him on the field in any situation. It's also hard to find a tougher guy, as he's not afraid to take a hit or put his head down for the extra yard. He's the ultimate team player. Without a ton of WR talent on the team, Celek could be called upon to be active in the passing game. He scored three TDs last year and even had a 134-yard receiving game.

Fantasy Downside
There's a lot more downside to Celek than upside. The biggest downside is Zach Ertz, who is poised to take over the TE1 role. While Ertz isn't a great blocker, he really showed what he could do as a major weapon in the passing game over the second half of the season. It's going to be hard to keep Ertz off the field, which means Celek's role is likely more of a blocker. The offense under Doug Pederson is going to move a lot slower this year, so that means less plays and likely less chances for Celek overall.

Bottom Line
Celek's value will only come if Ertz gets hurt or again gets off to a slow start in a season he'll likely be considered a top TE in the league. Celek is just 35th on our TE list and should be left on the wire in your typical fantasy league.

Week 12 at Detroit

Brent Celek has quietly put up TE1 numbers the last two weeks. Last week, he caught seven balls for 79 yards on a season-high 10 targets. Zach Ertz did leave after taking a nasty, head-first fall to the turf and is likely out with a concussion this week.

Over the last two games, Celek has 11 catches for 215 yards on 14 targets. This week, with Ertz likely out, Celek is ranked 10th on our TE list and is a sneaky pick up (and play) if you're hurting at the position. The Lions are 26th in allowing fantasy points to TEs, so this is shaping up to be a nice, upside play.

Fantasy Upside
Chip Kelly loves Brent Celek, who is a hard-nosed, throw back NFL tough guy who will do anything for his team. Celek has put up offensive numbers in the past and stays on the field for a lot of plays due to his blocking skills. With a largely unproven group of WRs heading into this season, the TEs could see an increased role as long as their remains stability on the offensive line.

Fantasy Downside
Even though many thought Zach Ertz would break out last year, the signs certainly point to him doing that this year. This could limit Celek's offensive production once again. Last year, the offensive line was banged up and the team used Celek's blocking ability more than his offensive skills, which isn't going to get owners many fantasy points for their team.

Bottom Line
Celek could have some value if the line stays healthy and the team uses more two-TE sets, but even so, Ertz is likely to take on the role as the better offensive weapon in this offense. Celek is a risky draft pick even as a second TE in a deeper league until we see more of how he's going to be used.
