CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Green Bay
Ja'Marr Chase had season-highs in targets and catches last Thursday. He ended up with 77 receiving yards but didn't get into the end zone for the first time this season. Chase has been the No. 1 target for QB Joe Burrow and has put up great fantasy numbers to date considering his ADP.

Chase faces Green Bay who is ranked 14th in aFPA to wide receivers. The Bengals are going to start leaning on Burrow more which is good for the receivers. But Tee Higgins will be back which means the pie will get split more ways.

Start Chase as a low-end WR2 for Week 5. Cincinnati should generate some offense, but Chase will push himself higher if he continues to score touchdowns, but that as we saw last week, it doesn't always happen.

CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Jacksonville
Ja'Marr Chase is looking like a steal in fantasy drafts at this point. He now has four touchdowns in three games. Besides getting in the end zone twice against Pittsburgh, he had four catches for 65 yards including a 34-yard score. His long-ball threat makes him dangerous every game.

Chase faces the Jaguars who are ranked 8th in aFPA to wide receivers. With the early success, expect him to get more attention but his talent should be enough to overcome.

Start Chase as a solid WR1 for the first time. His stock is rising and he now has to be considered in the running for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Pittsburgh
The rookie receiver is settling in for the Bengals as a legitimate target in the passing game. Ja'Marr Chase now has a touchdown in each of his first two games and even though his overall numbers fell back a little bit against a quality defense, he is already showing that first-round pick pedigree.

Chase will face the Steelers for the first time in his career. Pittsburgh ended 2020 ranked 20th in aFPA to wide receivers so there is a chance for Cincinnati to have some success in the passing game.

Chase is the top-ranked Bengals receiver and a high-end WR3 or flex for Week 3. Burrow will find his former college teammate enough to put up decent fantasy numbers.

CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Chicago
Ja'Marr Chase's NFL debut was a pretty good one with five receptions for 101 yards and touchdown. The targets should be evenly spread out to the Bengals receivers most of the season and this time Chase had the best production of the three (Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd). Chase averaged over 20 yards per catch which should be his calling card. It included a 50-yard reception..

Chase will have a tougher matchup on the road against the Bears defense. Chicago ranks 8th in aFPA to wide receivers after one week. But Cincy will have a tougher time with a defense that is considered a top unit in the league.

Start Chase for Week 2 but only has a WR3 or Flex. It's going to be a crapshoot each week to see who is the Bengals receiver of choice. And if QB Joe Burrow throws less than 30 passes per game like he did in Week 1, the production could be spotty for Chase in certain games.

CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Minnesota
Ja'Marr Chase could end up being the best receiver from the 2021 draft and should be a big-play threat for the Bengals. The other two receivers for Cincy will probably see more targets and have more receptions early on, but Chase will make plays.

The matchup is favorable for Week 1 as the Vikings were 24th in aFPA to wide receivers last season. With Joe Burrow making his return from injury, the Bengals have a chance to be explosive but there are question marks.

Keep Chase on the bench for Week 1. We want to see how he fits in the offense and passing game first before we start moving him into the starting lineup.

CIN WR Ja'Marr Chase - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Going into the 2021 NFL Draft, there was some debate on who the best receiver was in the draft. We are pretty sure you will find out quickly it was Ja'Marr Chase. The former LSU Tiger and fifth overall pick is reunited with his former college quarterback with Cincy hoping that chemistry will carry over to the pro level. The scouting report on Chase highlights his quickness and stop-start ability. NFL defensive backs will have trouble with him in the underneath routes which is where Chase will make his living. Yards after the catch is what will make him elite. The Bengals have confidence in QB Joe Burrow and that will carry over all of his receivers including Chase.

Fantasy Downside
Chase skipped last season at LSU opting out with COVID-19 concerns. The time off shouldn't affect him, but he only had the one monster year with the Tigers so some might have concerns about that. The biggest knock on Chase is he doesn't possess elite size. There will also be pressure on him to perform right away because of where he was taken in the draft and some critics wanted Cincinnati to take an offensive lineman.

Bottom Line
The Bengals will need to replace nine targets per game from last season and Chase should get the majority of that. In fact, expect him to be the No. 1 Cincinnati wide receiver by the end of the season. Chase is being drafted in the sixth round, but don't be afraid to take him a round earlier if he is there. Expect 80 receptions and a 1,000-yard season for the rookie.
