NO WR Brandon Coleman Divisional Round Fantasy Football Outlook

Divisional Round at Minnesota Vikings

Brandon Coleman caught 4-of-5 targets for 44 yards in the Saints' Wild Card win over the Panthers. He nearly lost a fumble in the third quarter but Mark Ingram recovered the loose ball. Overall, it was a solid performance from Coleman but we don't recommend him in DFS this week. Ranked as our No. 24 WR for the Divisional Round, Coleman is nothing but a dart throw this week.

Wild Card Round vs. Carolina Panthers

Brandon Coleman failed to secure his only target in the Saints’ Week 17 loss to the Bucs. He’s not targeted enough to be fantasy relevant and should be avoided this weekend when the Saints host the Panthers in the Wild Card round.

Fantasy Upside

Brandon Coleman caught 26 passes for 281 yards and 3 touchdowns last season. At 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds, Coleman has the size to be a red zone threat. He has drawn some limited praise this offseason for his playmaking ability. If Michael Thomas, Willie Snead or Ted Ginn Jr. were to miss time, Coleman would receive a bump in playing time.

Fantasy Downside

Coleman played in all 16 games last season but finished with four fewer receptions for 173 fewer yards on 11 fewer targets when compared to his 2015 numbers. He finished seventh on the team with 281 receiving yards and is the fifth option behind Thomas, Snead, Ginn, and tight end Colby Fleener. Unless there's a significant injury, it's unlikely Coleman tops 500 yards receiving this season.

2017 Bottom Line

Coleman may have been in line for more opportunities when the Saints traded Cooks to New England, but as soon as they signed Ginn in free agency, Coleman was again relegated to the back-burner. He was targeted just 38 times last season, and given the plethora of options the Saints have in their passing game, there's no reason for Coleman to play a bigger role in 2017. Despite Coleman's imposing size, Thomas was Brees' favorite red zone option last season and that doesn't figure to change this year. Leave Coleman off your draft board.

Fantasy Upside
Brandon Coleman caught 30 passes for 454 yards and two touchdowns on 49 targets as a rookie in 2015. At 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds, Coleman has the skill set to emerge as a red-zone option for Drew Brees. If he can hold off second-round pick Michael Thomas, Coleman could earn the "big slot" role for the Saints this season.

Fantasy Downside
Coleman's roster spot isn't even guaranteed after the team nabbed Thomas in April. Thomas has a similar skill set as Coleman but he's reportedly had the better training camp and is the more talented player overall. Even if Coleman were to hold off Thomas for the team's No. 3 receiver job, he's still stuck behind Brandin Cooks, Coby Fleener, Willie Snead and Mark Ingram for looks in Sean Payton's offense.

2016 Bottom Line
Ranked as our WR90, Coleman is going undrafted in both 10 and 12-team leagues. Thomas has the higher ceiling and boasts more upside so if you're looking for a late-round flier, he's a better fantasy bet than Coleman. Avoid him on draft night.

Week 14 at Tampa Bay
Brandon Coleman came out of nowhere to catch 4-of-7 targets for 73 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' Week 13 loss to the Panthers. The yards were the most Coleman has generated in a game this season and the touchdown was just his second score of 2015. Coleman is ranked as our WR69, so we don't see back-to-back productive games.

Week 3 at Carolina
Brandon Coleman finished with three catches for 33 yards in the Saints Week 2 loss to the Buccaneers. While he did start, he was the third option behind Brandin Cooks and Marques Colston. With Drew Brees (shoulder) out and New Orleans' offense looking directionless without Jimmy Graham, none of the Saints receivers are attractive fantasy options for this weekend. Coleman ranks as our WR59 for Week 3 against the Panthers and their No. 12-ranked fantasy defense versus wide receivers. Avoid Coleman.

Week 2 vs. Tampa Bay
Brandon Coleman caught four-of-seven targets for 41 yards and a touchdown in the Saints Week 1 loss to the Cardinals. He played in all three-receiver sets alongside Marques Colston and Brandin Cooks, who was shadowed by Patrick Peterson throughout the game. With Jimmy Graham gone, the 6-foot-6 Coleman could emerge as a consistent red-zone target for quarterback Drew Brees. The second-year receiver ranks as our WR35 for Sunday's matchup with the Bucs and fantasy's No. 27 pass defense. Coleman is a flex option for Week 2.
