Scouting report

WAS QB Jayden Daniels - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Baltimore Ravens

Jayden Daniels has been everything we hoped he would be, as a passer and a runner, through the first five weeks of his rookie season. He has translated his success on the field into outstanding fantasy production, and currently averages 22.7 fantasy points per game. That’s good enough for QB2 on the year.

Daniels could be in for another big day against a Ravens defense that, one game aside, has not exactly been a shutdown unit in 2024. They rank 26th in aFPA to quarterbacks this season, putting Daniels in a prime position to deliver another top-tier QB1 performance.

WAS QB Jayden Daniels - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Cleveland Browns/strong>

Jayden Daniels has made an incredible start to his NFL career, a fact he highlighted with another strong fantasy showing in Week 4. Daniels passed for 233 yards and a touchdown while adding another score and 47 yards on the ground on his way to 24 fantasy points.

Simply put, there are not many quarterbacks you can confidently start ahead of Daniels in fantasy football at the moment. He should certainly be in your lineups in Week 5 with a clash against a Cleveland Browns defense that ranks 10th in aFPA to quarterbacks. Daniels has as good a chance as any to finish as the overall QB1 this week.

WAS QB Jayden Daniels - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Arizona Cardinals

Week 3 was Jayden Daniels's true coming out party in the NFL. He completed 21 of his 23 pass attempts for 254 yards and two touchdowns while adding another 39 yards and a score with his feet. Daniels was the QB3 for the week with 28.1 fantasy points.

A similar outcome, at least in terms of fantasy ranking, is not beyond his reach in Week 4 with a matchup against the Cardinals. The Cardinals have not been able to stop quarterbacks from taking fantasy points off them all season, and it will surprise nobody if they can't keep Daniels quiet this week. You can start Daniels confidently, and probably over most of the other starters in the NFL at the moment.

WAS QB Jayden Daniels - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Cincinnati Bengals
Week 2 saw Jayden Daniels win his first game as an NFL quarterback, but he didn’t exactly rip off amazing fantasy stats to help make it happen. He completed 23 of his 29 passes for 226 scoreless yards, while adding another 44 on 10 rushing attempts. His 14.1 fantasy points were enough for QB15 for the week.

If Daniels is to be fantasy-relevant this week, it would seem like he’ll have to do the bulk of his work with his legs. The Bengals are 31st in passing yards allowed but have seen the eighth most QB rush attempts so far this season. If Daniels can use his feet to good effect, then a mid-tier QB1 week is within his range of outcomes.

WAS QB Jayden Daniels - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs New York Giants

From a fantasy point of view, Jayden Daniel's NFL debut was a great success, as the rookie scored 28.2 fantasy points and finished as the QB3 in Week 1. But when you look closer, you will realize that the bulk of this production came as a result of his 16 carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns. Daniels did complete 70.8% of his passes, but could only muster 184 scoreless yards.

Daniels should remain among the elite scorers at the position with a Week 2 match against one of the league's sorriest defenses in the Giants. The Giants allowed 19 of 24 passes to be completed against them by the Vikings in Week 1, and a porous secondary tied to Daniel's ability to score points with his legs should see him comfortably among the top scorers at the QB position again this week.

WAS QB Jayden Daniels - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jayden Daniels comes into the season with the most buzz surrounding a Commanders quarterback since Robert Griffin III more than a decade ago. The dual-threat skillset he brings to the table makes him immediately of interest to fantasy managers, and a Week 1 game against the Buccaneers is not likely to dampen any enthusiasm. The Bucs ranked 28th in aFPA to quarterbacks last season, a trend that if allowed to continue should help Daniels post QB1 numbers in his first NFL go-around.

WAS QB Jayden Daniels - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Jayden Daniels comes into the NFL as one of the most exciting, yet frightening, QB prospects in recent years. He lit up the field for LSU in 2023 with 3,812 passing yards and 40 touchdowns, with another 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. He also showed a penchant for absorbing bone-splintering hits, a habit that is likely not going to lead to a lengthy NFL career, but one that Washington will hope he can kick.

The Washington offense is not likely to be an NFL powerhouse in 2024, but the allure of the rushing quarterback means that Daniels could still be a fantasy star while presiding over a below-average unit. He projects to be a low-end QB1, but he has the potential to break fantasy...if he can stay upright.
