MNF: Patriots RB Sony Michel returns to practice, doubtful for Week 8

After suffering a knee injury last week that was reportedly a week-to-week injury, which usually means out for at least one game, Sony Michel, surprisingly returned to practice Saturday, giving him an outside chance to play Monday night in Buffalo.

However, he is officially listed as doubtful to play.

Fantasy Impact:

A Monday night kick doesn't help Michel owners with making a decision on him this week. It's likely he won't play this week, given the news leading up to today, but this is definitely a good long term sign for those with Michel on their fantasy teams. Keep an eye out to see if the Patriots promote Kenneth Farrow from the practice squad, who was seen receiving hand-offs from Tom Brady earlier this week. If Farrow is promoted to the active roster, it's likely a sign Michel will be inactive Monday night. Regardless, this does not change James White's status as a strong Week 8 start.

Fantasy Upside

As SBNation pointed out, Kenneth Farrow, an undrafted free agent, saw his first meaningful NFL action last season in Week 2, getting four carries against the Jaguars after Danny Woodhead went down with a season-ending knee injury. Injuries opened the door for Farrow to make the team, they opened the door for him to get NFL carries, and they eventually opened the door for him to become the starter in Week 15 against the Raiders. Farrow was injured just a week later against the Browns and placed on IR.

Fantasy Downside

Farrow gained just 192 yards on 60 carries, good for 3.2 yards per carry. The offensive line play wasn't great, but Farrow did nothing to distinguish himself with his own effort.

2017 Bottom Line

With Branden Oliver back from the injury that sidelined him last year, Farrow falls down the pecking order behind Oliver and starter Melvin Gordon. Assuming he beats out Kenjon Barner and Andre Williams, Farrow's value is totally dependent on the health of the others on the roster.
