Peyton Hillis was signed by the Giants last season after injuries ravaged their backfield. Hillis ended up putting in a few modest outings, but never really distinguished himself as a viable fantasy option, finishing the year with only a 3.4 yards per carry average on 73 touches, and scoring only twice in 7 games.
Fantasy Upside
Hillis has very little upside, but the Giants running game right now is counting on a rookie fourth round pick, and on a 29 year old career backup in Rashad Jennings. If Hillis can get healthy, there’s always a chance he could play his way into a role.
Fantasy Downside
Hillis did very little with his chances last season. He had a couple of nice runs in spot duty, but during the three games that he was forced into starter carries, his best stat line with 20 rushes for 70 yards and a 3.5 yard average. He’ll have to do a lot better than that to win any playing time. Hillis is also currently hurt and out indefinitely, although early reports on his foot and ankle indicate that he’s starting to rebound quicker than anticipated.
Bottom Line
For now, it’s hard to see Hillis climbing higher than third on the depth chart in New York, and until he shows he’s healthy and actually competing for carries, he has little to no fantasy value.
