Panthers WR Stephen Hill still has an uphill battle, not only from the mental aspect of coming off the injury, but because the Panthers are deeper than ever at receiver.

Last year Hill tore his ACL, PCL, LCL and hamstring -- an injury that ended his season and one that has ended the career of other NFL players.

“He’ll have to start in the middle of the pack and work his way up,’’ WR coach Ricky Proehl said.

Fantasy Impact: 

That won’t be easy. Kelvin Benjamin, coming off an ACL tear that ended his 2015 season in training camp, clearly is the No. 1 receiver. Ted Ginn Jr., Devin Funchess and Philly Brown are all but locks to make the roster. That leaves only one or two spots for a receiver on the 53-man roster up for grabs.

Panthers wide receiver Stephen Hill was carted off the field Saturday with a right leg injury.

Hill attempted to make a catch across the middle during an afternoon practice in intense heat, but came down wrong on his leg and fell to the ground screaming in pain.
Trainers taped Hill's knee before helping him on to a cart. Hill left the field with his head in his hands and a towel draped over his head.

Panthers assistant coach Steve Wilks said after practice he had no immediate word on the extent of the injury and didn't want to speculate.

''I saw Hill go up in the air and come down on his knee and possibly twist it a little bit, but I don't want to say anything until I have a chance to meet with (the trainers),'' said Wilks, who was filling for coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Impact: 

The former New York Jets' second-round pick was battling for a roster spot in Carolina. He spent last season on the Panthers' practice squad.

Panthers WR Corey Brown (shoulder, questionable) took limited practice reps again Friday and is questionable for Week 19. Brown is iffy for Saturday’s game. Brenton Bersin is the next man up, but there was even some talk of the team calling up Stephen Hill from the practice squad.

Panthers WR Philly Brown hurt his shoulder late in the playoff win against Arizona last week, and his status is uncertain enough that the team could make a roster move to replace him, as the linked ESPN story details, possibly adding Stephen Hill, a former second-round pick of the Jets.
