Scouting report

NYG WR Isaiah Hodgins - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Dallas Cowboys

After arriving in New York off waivers midway through the season, Isaiah Hodgins caught 33 balls in eight games for the Giants. He also caught four touchdowns in a five-week span toward the end of the regular season and he had a great game in the wildcard victory over the Vikings, catching eight of nine targets for 105 yards and a touchdown. Hodgins has size that few other receivers in New York offer, giving him a leg up on the competition for targets.

That competition is fierce, however, and with tight end Darren Waller and running back Saquon Barkley poised to be the top-two receiving options in the offense, it’s hard to bank on any one of their receivers getting enough consistent fantasy production to be worth starting. He’s definitely worth adding to fantasy rosters though, given his unique skill set and production at the end of last season. Just take a cautious approach to starting him.

NYG WR Isaiah Hodgins - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Isaiah Hodgins joined the Giants mid-season last year after struggling to climb the depth chart in Buffalo. He finished the season on an impressive scoring run, finding the end zone in four of his final five regular season games, and then catching eight of nine targets for 105 yards and a touchdown in a playoff victory over the Vikings. Hodgins was known for finding soft spots in the zone, consistent hands, and making contested catches during his time at Oregon State, and he may have used those skills to earn a starting outside role in New York heading into the 2023 season.

Fantasy Downside
Hodgins was picked up off waivers and doesn’t have much big-play ability. The Giants also have a logjam at the position, and added tight end Darren Waller in the offseason. Waller excels at many of the things Hodgins does best and may cut into the type of targets he thrived on last season. The Giants were 25th in the league last year in pass attempts, so there may be limited targets to spread around.

2023 Bottom Line
Hodgins is available in the last few rounds of most drafts, making him a bargain considering his potential to lead the team in targets and touchdown receptions. He’s all reward with no risk. Draft him at cost, and if he doesn’t produce at the same rate he finished last season at, cut him with very little invested.

NYG WR Isaiah Hodgins - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Isaiah Hodgins had a nice game against the Vikings last week, catching eight of 12 targets for 89 yards and a touchdown. It was his third touchdown in the last four games and he’s clearly become a nice possession target for quarterback Daniel Jones.

He’s still fighting for targets with Darius Slayton and Richie James on an offense not expected to produce big receiving numbers in any given week, so he’s a risky starting option. That said, if you’re desperate, his potential for another touchdown as a big body in the red zone gives him some “throw-a-dart” potential as a low-end WR3.
