Cowboys Darren McFadden declared last week that, "I still don't think the world has seen the best of Darren McFadden.''

The Cowboys certainly hope that's the case. McFadden averaged less than 3.4 yards a carry the past three seasons with Oakland. He rushed for a total of 1,620 yards, which is less than DeMarco Murray accumulated for the Cowboys last season.

So, what do the Cowboys see in McFadden?

"We liked him a lot coming out of college,'' head coach Jason Garrett said. "He came out in '08. That was the same year we drafted Felix Jones. We spent a lot of time with him and on him. I think he was the fourth player taken in that draft. There was a lot to like about him.

"We are confident in the environment we can create for our guys to bring the best out in him.''

Fantasy Impact: 

McFadden played in 16 games for the first time in his career last season. He missed 19 games over the previous three seasons and has played in more than 13 games in a season only once in his career. There is no doubt McFadden will be behind a better offensive line this year, but the Cowboys could very well address the position in the draft. There is a lot to settle between now and fantasy draft day in terms of McFadden's possible value.

The guy you've never heard of, RB Juan Thompson, is helping the Broncos resist the temptation to add a big name such as Felix Jones or Michael Bush to an injury-ravaged, inexperienced running back corps. With Anderson's status uncertain (concussion) for the Aug. 17 game at San Francisco and Montee Ball (appendectomy) out until at least the third preseason game, Thompson becomes an interesting option in the roster roulette.

"We have got numbers there — kids that have been with us and done a good job," coach John Fox said when asked if he was concerned about the depth at the running back. "Ronnie (Hillman) got more opportunities. Montee is doing great, and he'll be back shortly. And Thompson played well."

Fantasy Impact: 

The Broncos feel like the don't need to add another back, especially with the play of Thompson on Thursday night. The story gives him a "puncher's chance" to make the team because he's built like a boxer, a sculpted 5-foot-11, 225 pounds. He is equipped for short-yardage plays, where he first started making noise in training camp during goal-line drills. And his tires feature plenty of tread. He was part of a four-man rotation at Duke.

Le'Veon Bell suffered a concussion

A violent goal-line collision in a 22-20 loss to the Ravens left Le'Veon Bell concussed, but the Steelers' rookie running back did some running Monday and is hopeful of playing Sunday against the visiting Dolphins.

"I'm going to take it day by day and see where we're at," Bell said. "The goal is obviously to play, but if [I'm] not able to, I'm not able to."

Bell and Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith rammed helmets when they met near the goal line as the former tried to score on a 1-yard touchdown run. Bell fell forward and into the end zone even though the force of the collision caused his helmet to pop off.

Fantasy Impact: 

The played was ruled a TD at first but was reversed because his helmet came off before crossing the goal line. He doesn't remember the hit but said he hasn't experienced side effects. Speaking Tuesday, Tomlin said Bell "looked good." His fate is in the hands of NFL protocol, however. The Steelers would likely rely on a committee of Felix Jones and Jonathan Dwyer in Week 14.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived running back Isaac Redman and promoted LB Kion Wilson from the practice squad.

Redman began training camp expecting to compete for the starting job but struggled to stay healthy.

He managed just 12 yards on 10 carries this season and saw his playing time decrease behind rookie Le’Veon Bell and veterans Felix Jones and Jonathan Dwyer.

Fantasy Impact: 

Redman is the odd man out. He survived at first when the team cut Jonathan Dwyer after trading for Felix Jones after Le'Veon Bell hurt his foot. But with Bell back healthy the Steelers had one too many backs and this time it's Redman who gets released.
