WR Marvin Jones announces he's leaving Lions

Receiver Marvin Jones is stepping away from the Lions.

Jones made the announcement on social media on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lions have released Jones.

Fantasy Impact:

The veteran receiver did not play in Sunday’s loss to the Ravens with the team noting on Saturday that he would neither play nor travel to Baltimore. The story went on to quote Jones: “I just want to say that I have so much love and respect for the Ford family, the city of Detroit, my teammates, and coaches,” Jones said in his statement. “To be brief, I am stepping away from the team to take care of personal family matters. Although this was no easy decision, I cannot be the person/player that I need to be for this team as well as tend to my family from afar."

Week 2 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Marvin Jones was behind Christian Kirk and Zay Jones in the target pecking order in Week 1, seeing just six targets in the loss to Washington. Jones caught four of his looks for 38 yards and zero touchdowns, giving him 5.8 fantasy points in Half PPR formats. This total gave him WR59 honors for Week 1.

The Colts allowed the Texans wide receivers to combine for 12 receptions and 139 yards last week, but managed to hold them out of the end zone. The third wide receiver on this offense is not a role that looks likely to deliver a chunk of fantasy value, and Jones is not a player you need to start this week unless you are absolutely ravaged at the WR spots.
