Scouting report

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Las Vegas Raiders

Joshua Kelley rushed three times for six yards against the Broncos, earning a princely 0.6 Half-PPR points. Kelley is the RB66 in fantasy points per game this season, and even with the Raiders ranking 27th in aFPA to running backs in 2023 he is not a player that can be projected for a fantasy relevant role in Week 15.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Denver Broncos

The good news for Joshua Kelley last week was that he amassed just two fewer yards than Austin Ekeler, and was within 0.2 Half-PPR points of him for the week. The bad news is that the yardage total was just 25, and the fantasy points were 3.7 to 3.5. Ugly.

The Broncos rank 23rd in aFPA to running backs this season, but Kelley is not guaranteed a big enough role to make him someone to consider in fantasy this week. If you need to start him, it's unlikely a Week 15 bye is in your future.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at New England Patriots

Joshua Kelley continued to do nothing of note in fantasy football in Week 12, rushing three times for eight yards and catching two balls for another six, giving him 2.4 Half-PPR points against the Ravens.

Kelley's matchup, plus his lack of significant opportunities, makes him a player that you really don't need to start in Week 13. His rest of season projection as an RB5 doesn't exactly look like making him viable for the remainder of 2023.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs Baltimore Ravens

Joshua Kelley once again did very little on his limited opportunities in Week 11, rushing six times for 13 yards against the Packers on his way to 1.3 Half PPR points.

Despite Ekeler's apparent struggles, Kelley is simply not earning enough playing time to make any standalone fantasy noise, so the difficult matchup against the Ravens shouldn't change anyone's mind about him. You really don't need to be starting Kelley this week, or any other going forward for that matter.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Green Bay Packers

Joshua Kelley continues to play second fiddle behind Austin Ekeler, a role that leaves very little scope to score any fantasy points of his own. He managed 1.6 Half-PPR points last week and is averaging just 5.4 per game, making him the RB57 in average points per game.

He has, on paper, what looks like a great matchup, given the Packers rank 25th in aFPA to running backs this season. But he's not going to be the player enjoying the fruits of this matchup, and as a result, he should only be in starting lineups as a desperate flex option in the deepest of leagues.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Detroit Lions

It may have gone under the radar, but Joshua Kelley is on course for a career season in 2023. He has 323 rushing yards at 4.4 yards per carry. But he hasn’t done an awful lot in fantasy, which probably doesn’t help his case.

He isn’t likely to make much of an impact in Week 10, considering how strong the Lions have been against running backs in fantasy. The Lions rank fifth in aFPA to running backs this season. With Austin Ekeler healthy and dominating the backfield, Kelley doesn’t project to be a player you have to start, even with four teams on a bye.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at New York Jets

The return of Austin Ekeler saw Joshua Kelley’s role reduced to that of a breather back in recent weeks. He’s carried the ball a combined 14 times in his last three games, and has one catch over that span. Kelley has just one game with more than 6.5 Half PPR points since Week 1 of the season, and averages just 6.31 points per game in 2023.

The Chargers matchup with the Jets looks like being a running back friendly one, with the Jets ranking 25th in aFPA to tailbacks this season. It’s possible Kelley could see enough work in relief of Ekeler to make him fantasy relevant in Week 9, but as nothing more than an RB4/Flex option.
