Scouting report

ARI QB Colt McCoy - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Atlanta Falcons

Colt McCoy has shown a modicum of function as a spot-starter, but hasn’t been a great fantasy option when called upon. His presence behind center should be an improvement for the Arizona pass-catchers over Trace McSorley, but his standalone fantasy value is minimal, even in a pretty good matchup against the Falcons, who rank 20th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. He’s a low-end QB2 option.

Update: With David Blough starting, Colt McCoy goes from bad option to no option. He's droppable.

ARI QB Colt McCoy - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Los Angeles Rams

Colt McCoy is looking likely to start this week against the Rams, who rank 9th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. McCoy has had some productive games in the past, but this isn't likely the matchup to trust him. Fantasy managers should steer clear of McCoy outside of deep 2QB leagues.

ARI QB Colt McCoy - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Seattle Seahawks

Kyler Murray is questionable to play, but even if he's out again, Colt McCoy isn't a great fantasy option against a Seattle defense that ranks 13th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. After a rough outing last week, fantasy managers should have better options available than McCoy, even on waivers.

ARI QB Colt McCoy - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Carolina Panthers

Colt McCoy filled in nicely for the Cardinals last week, throwing for an efficient 249 yards and a touchdown in a lopsided victory over the 49ers. McCoy may see another start with Kyler Murray’s ankle still a question mark, but fantasy managers should probably steer clear in most leagues. His best function may be as a “just-in-case” last-minute option for those who roster Murray and need an emergency option. If you can look elsewhere, do so.

WAS QB Colt McCoy - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. New England Patriots

When asked Wednesday about his plan at quarterback, Jay Gruden responded, "We don't have one." When asked Thursday about his plan, Gruden once again had no answer. Case Keenum is hurt, Dwayne Haskins played poorly in Week 4 and Colt McCoy is surprisingly still in the league. It probably doesn't matter who is starting at QB, though, as this is a bad offense going up arguably the best defense in the league. If McCoy does start, he's not worth fantasy consideration.

WAS QB Colt McCoy - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Philadelphia Eagles

You have a crucial match this week in either your fantasy playoffs or the last week of your fantasy regular season. You see Colt McCoy on your waiver wire. Leave Colt McCoy on your waiver wire. The Eagles may be 20th in aFPA, but Washington has an implied team total of 19.5, bottom five on the Week 13 slate. McCoy had three interceptions in his first start. Stay away.

WAS QB Colt McCoy - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Dallas Cowboys (Thanksgiving)

Colt McCoy takes over at quarterback for the rest of the season for Washington and is a back-up the franchise has invested in to keep around for five years now at a healthy second-string QB salary of $3 million per year. So there is trust in McCoy. However, there is real football confidence and fantasy football confidence. McCoy doesn't fall into the latter in a game with the second lowest total on the Week 12 slate, with Washington having an implied team total under 17 points. It also doesn't help that McCoy's weapons have been depleted as the season has gone on, with Paul Richardson already on IR and Jamison Crowder still not practicing.
