Eagles QB Mike Vick was playing worse than Donovan McNabb was playing in Baltimore in 2008, when coach Andy Reid infamously benched him for Kevin Kolb. But backup QB Nick Foles is a rookie, Reid doesn't want or need a QB controversy, and there was that whole rust thing.

"I thought he was rusty," Reid said. "I'm stating the obvious, but I thought he had to work his way through it. He's our quarterback. The game's fast. It picks up off the preseason and he didn't have any preseason."

Fantasy Impact: 

Vick didn't see much work in the preseason thanks to two different injuries that caused him to leave both games he appeared in. Also, Vick wasn't having a consistent camp this year either, so this is something to monitor. Turnovers were a big issue with Vick last season as well.

The Bears did not make a play for veteran Donovan McNabb last week and did not discuss possibilities even after McNabb became an unrestricted free agent.

But with Caleb Hanie turning in his worst performance as a starter or backup, and Josh McCown not deemed ready enough after more than a week of orientation with the offense, sources told CSNChicago.com that the Bears will be in conversations Monday about bringing the longtime standout with Philadelphia in as Hanie’s backup.

Conversations do not equate to “negotiations” or serious talks, but McCown has not played his way past rookie Nathan Enderle after 10 days and has not established a comfort level with coaches, receivers or the system yet.

Fantasy Impact: 

The match certainly makes sense as McNabb is a Chicago native. The Bears need at least some threat of a passing game, especially now with Matt Forte apparently sidelined for 2-4 weeks. From a fantasy perspective, McNabb isn't the same QB he was with the Eagles and has really diminished the last two years with Redskins and Vikings.

Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith indicated he has no interest in acquiring quarterback Donovan McNabb, who was waived by the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday.

''I like our quarterbacks we have here right now,'' Smith said when asked if he was intrigued by the availability of McNabb.

He reiterated his position when he was asked if he expected the Bears to put in a claim for the former Eagles star, who prepped at Mount Carmel High School on the South Side of Chicago.

''I like our quarterbacks we have right now,'' he repeated. ''I'm not going to start talking about guys from the outside. That should be enough for you. We have three quarterbacks here. We like them. We're anxious to play Kansas City this week.''

John Beck took over as starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins three weeks ago, but given his performance the last couple of games, is he on a shorter leash this week?

Possibly.

This week, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan had Beck split first-team snaps with second-string quarterback Rex Grossman, who opened the season as the starter but was benched four games ago.

Grossman struggles to take care of the football, but he has a better feel for the system, and he has a strong rapport with tight end Fred Davis and receiver Jabar Gaffney, the team’s leading pass-catchers.

Shanahan began giving Grossman more first-team snaps in practice last season before making the decision to bench Donovan McNabb for the final three games of the season.

The move to give Grossman first team snaps also could be intended to put more pressure on Beck. Mike Shanahan likes to create competition in practice to spark improvement.

Fantasy Impact: 

Generally speaking, Grossman has looked better than Beck, but neither one is a long-term answer for the Redskins or your fantasy team. The best thing to do would be to stay away from both of them.
