Scouting report

ATL TE Kyle Pitts - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Giants

After a quiet debut, Pitts bounced back for 73 yards on five catches against the Buccaneers. Now that's gotten some of the early butterflies out, let's hope Atlanta continues to feature Pitts, as he's such a matchup nightmare. Maybe this will be the week Pitts gets his first NFL touchdown.

ATL TE Kyle Pitts - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Buccaneers

Certainly not the start many envisioned for the fourth-overall pick in April's draft (four catches, 31 yards). But Matt Ryan already knows to look for his beast of a tight end. Pitts was tied with Calvin Ridley with eight targets against the Eagles. In Week 2, he faces a Buccaneers team that allowed six catches for 45 yards to Dalton Schultz and another 20 yards on three catches to Blake Jarwin in Week 1. Pitts is still a top-ten tight end going forward. He'll get his. Just be patient.

ATL TE Kyle Pitts - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs Eagles

It's the much-anticipated debut for one of the best tight ends to come out of college in quite some time. Kyle Pitts had himself a fine preseason and showed the world some of what made him great at Florida and what made him the fourth-overall pick in the NFL Draft in April. He makes his NFL debut against the Eagles, who aren't exactly scary in the middle of their defense. It could be a very nice debut for Pitts, who comes in as a top-five tight end for Week 1. Not bad for a rookie tight end.

ATL TE Kyle Pitts - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Anybody who followed the process leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft knows just how incredible Kyle Pitts was at Florida. He is a wide receiver in a tight end's body. He's one of those players that you could have places anywhere and he'd instantly upgrade the offense. The Falcons made Pitts the highest-drafted tight end in NFL history at No. 4 overall.

The Falcons and their new regime of head coach Arthur Smith and general manager Terry Fontenot absolutely have high hopes for Pitts, selecting him over a potential future quarterback like Justin Fields or Mac Jones. He and Calvin Ridley will gobble up targets from Matt Ryan, which is why he is currently sitting as a top-five tight end heading into drafts.

Fantasy Downside

Pitts will have a mantra around him beyond his control: rookie tight ends in fantasy very often do not produce. But Pitts is ready to break that glass ceiling and produce one of the best seasons ever for a rookie tight end. Hayden Hurst may still be around to take some targets, but not enough to make him very fantasy-relevant behind Pitts.

2021 Bottom Line

Off the heels of what Arthur Smith was able to do for Jonnu Smith in Tennessee, we can only be extremely excited to see what he'll do for Pitts in Atlanta. The interesting question will be can he break Rob Gronkowski's record of ten touchdown receptions as a rookie tight end? It's possible.
