Scouting report

ARI RB Stepfan Taylor - Week 14, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Minnesota
Stepfan Taylor had five carries for 20 yards last week in change-of-pace work as the Cardinals dominated the Rams. Once the game got out of hand, Kerwynn Williams got some looks in the running game, but Taylor should be the primary backup to rookie David Johnson while Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington are out with injuries. This week, expect Taylor to get another half dozen touches in a supporting role, but with David Johnson set for another full workload, Taylor has limited upside and should remain on the waiver wire in most fantasy leagues.

ARI RB Stepfan Taylor - Week 13, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at St. Louis
Stepfan Taylor had just carry for two yards last week after the Cardinals lost their top two running backs to injuries. Taylor should play the backup role this week behind rookie David Johnson against the Rams, but he’s unlikely to get enough carries to warrant any real fantasy consideration. Owners should leave him on waivers.

ARI RB Stepfan Taylor - Week 18, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wildcard Weekend – Stepfan Taylor vs. Carolina

Stepfan Taylor filled the change-of-pace role last week against the 49ers, getting seven carries and gaining 26 yard on the ground. He splits time with Kerwynn Williams, which really just hurts the fantasy value of both players, but he still has some potential against the Panthers, who were better against the pass than the run this year and gave up 14 touchdowns on the ground during the season.

Taylor ultimately is just outside our top ten this week, but if you’re not looking in the top 3-6 options on our list, you’re gambling in general, and we recommend Williams over Taylor as the safer Arizona back.

ARI RB Stepfan Taylor - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Stepfan Taylor vs. San Francisco

Stepfan Taylor had 11 carries last week and two receptions, which is good to see for fantasy owners. However, he had only 44 yards from scrimmage and averaged only 1.7 yards per carry on the ground.

Expect Taylor to struggle again this week as he faces the 49ers and their 7th ranked run defense and he’ll continue to share time with rookie Kerwynn Williams. Taylor has some value in large leagues, but he’s very risky and fantasy owners should probably just stay away from the entire Cardinals offense.

ARI RB Stepfan Taylor - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Stepfan Taylor vs. Seattle

Stepfan Taylor had 14 carries for 61 yards against the Rams last week, as he split carries with Kerwynn Williams the entire game. That trend will likely continue this week against the Seahawks, limiting the fantasy value of both players.

The Seahawks rank fifth in the league against the run, and Taylor is unlikely to get a full workload with Williams around, making Taylor a very risky option and a player who should be avoided in most fantasy leagues.

ARI RB Stepfan Taylor - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Stepfan Taylor vs. St. Louis
Stepfan Taylor has been the most promising of the three healthy running backs in Arizona, but only had six carries last week against the Chiefs, while rookie Kerwynn Williams had 19. We expect Taylor to keep getting work, but Williams and Marion Grice will continue to get touches as well, hurting the value of all three backs. If you’re desperate, Taylor could be a gamble with upside, but against a top ten Rams run defense, vying for touches, fantasy owners should probably just stay away from the Cardinals’ running game.

ARI RB Stepfan Taylor - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – Stepfan Taylor vs. Kansas City

Stepfan Taylor had only two touches last week, but the first was a three yard touchdown late in the game after the Falcons had pretty much already won it. He capped it off with a run for a successful two point conversion.

Despite his success, he seems to be the backup to the backup, as Marion Grice got the touches after Andre Ellington left with an injury. Fantasy owners should consider Taylor a risky guy to have on the roster, and he should remain on waivers for the time being.

Update:

Taylor will get more work this week with Andre Ellington now out. Fantasy owners should still be wary of Taylor, as he'll likely share time with Marion Grice, but Taylor should be picked up by owners who were counting on Ellington.
