Scouting report

by Jordan Heck

IND QB Charlie Whitehurst - Week 15, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Houston
Charlie Whitehurst could start this week if Matt Hasselbeck is unable to go with his rib injury. If he does play, he'd be a very bad option in a poor matchup against Houston. There's just not much upside to playing him.

TEN QB Charlie Whitehurst - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charlie Whitehurst Week 17 vs. Colts
Charlie Whitehurst put forth a solid effort last week, throwing for 287 yards and a score. But Indianapolis has allowed just seven TD passes in seven home games compared to 19 on the road. Don't expect a big day out of Whitehurst.

TEN QB Charlie Whitehurst - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charlie Whitehurst Week 16 vs. Jaguars
Charlie Whitehurst is back in the saddle after injuries have sidelined Zach Mettenberger and Jake Locker. He filled in back in Week 6 when these two teams met and threw for 233 yards. But that was with a full compliment of receivers. The Titans are banged up at the position now. Whitehurst should be effective against a Jacksonville defense that has been better in the second half than it was the first, but not enough to put in your lineup.

TEN QB Charlie Whitehurst - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charlie Whitehurst Week 7 vs. Redskins
It appears that Charlie Whitehurst is in line for another start this week as Jake Locker continues to deal with a thumb injury. Whitehurst had a solid, if unspectacular, effort last week with 233 yards passing. But he failed to throw a TD pass. That might not be an issue against a Washington defense that has allowed 13 TD passes in six games. While it's tough to throw Whitehurst into your lineup, he's a sneaky start this week.

TEN QB Charlie Whitehurst - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charlie Whitehurst Week 6 vs. Jaguars
Charlie Whitehurst was effective last week against Cleveland after entering for injured Jake Locker in the second quarter, throwing for 191 yards and a pair of scores. He faces a Jacksonville defense that has given up seven TD passes in three road games, so there's some hope here. Hope, that is if the Titans don't turn to rookie Zach Mettenberger. The Titans will probably keep it a secret until the last minute. But the guess here is that they go with Whitehurst in a winnable game.

TEN QB Charlie Whitehurst - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charlie Whitehurst Week 4 vs. Colts
It's not looking good for Jake Locker, who is dealing with a wrist injury this week, which would mean Charlie Whitehurst is in line to see his first action since 2011. That's a long time between regular season passes. Indianapolis has allowed six passing TDs and is giving up 276 yards per game in the air, but it would be a tough sell to tell you to play Whitehurst.

TEN QB Charlie Whitehurst - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Charlie Whitehurst backs up one of the more brittle quarterbacks in the league, Jake Locker.

Fantasy Downside
Whitehurst has never been anything more than a backup.

Bottom Line
Given that Locker has missed 18 games the past two seasons due to injury, there's a good chance Whitehurst sees some time this season. But he's not worth owning in any fantasy format.
