Scouting report

ARI RB Damien Williams - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Seattle Seahawks

Damien Williams logged 17% of the team’s offensive snaps last week, but when he was on the field, he often got the ball. He was second on the team with eight carries and he added a reception for a total of 44 yards from scrimmage. Williams is too risky to bank on in what looks like a three-headed backfield, but he’s worth adding in much deeper leagues in case he can earn more work. He was more effective than Keaontay Ingram.

ATL RB Damien Williams - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. New Orleans Saints

Damien Williams is listed ahead of Tyler Allgeier on the depth chart and the veteran journeyman has had some success in past stints - most notably rushing for 104 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory over the 49ers. Williams kicks off his Falcons career with a tough matchup against the Saints, who ranked No. 1 in aFPA to opposing running backs last year. With a questionable workload against a good defense, Williams should remain on the bench this week.

CHI RB Damien Williams - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Damien Williams could be a solid waiver pickup if the Bears can't get healthy by Monday night. David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert were both held out of practice Thursday due to a non-COVID illness. If both are unable to play, then Williams should see a solid share of touches and he'll be a strong RB2 play in a solid matchup vs. the Vikings. However, if Montgomery is able to play then Williams isn't a viable fantasy option in Week 15.

CHI RB Damien Williams - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. San Francisco 49ers

Damien Williams returned to the lineup last week but didn't see much action. This could be because he didn't practice all week and was only activated on Saturday, but we have to imagine Khalil Herbert's performances played a larger role. Williams saw just four touches (three carries, one reception) for eight yards and played on just 17% of the offensive snaps. It's hard to suggest playing Williams with Herbert's emergence. Williams is probably safe to put back on waivers at this point.

CHI RB Damien Williams - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Damien Williams has been cleared to play in Week 7, being activated from the COVID list on Saturday. The Bears seem to like Khalil Herbert, and he may have jumped Williams on the depth chart, but Williams has a chance to get some pass-catching work in Week 7. The Bucs have allowed more receiving yards than rushing yards to running backs this year, and Herbert hasn't been trusted much as a receiver while Williams has. Still, Williams will be a risky play in Week 7.

CHI RB Damien Williams - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Green Bay Packers

UPDATE: Damien Williams will not be able to play this week after being placed on the COVID list. Do not start him in Week 6.

The Bears trusted Damien Williams in David Montgomery's absence. Williams had a solid outing, finishing with 16 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He also saw three targets, finishing 2-20 through the air. He was oddly out-snapped by Khalil Herbert (34-31) and even had two fewer carries than the rookie. Williams is dealing with a foot and knee injury, though, which has left him limited in practice, and could be a reason for the split touches. Still, any time you can get 15+ touches out of your back, you're in a good spot. Williams gets a solid matchup this week against the Packers, who are 22nd in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to running backs. He should hover around 15 touches again, making him a solid RB2 play in Week 6.

CHI RB Damien Williams - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Las Vegas Raiders

Damien Williams was the waiver wire add of the week as he'll fill in for an injured David Montgomery. Williams showed some promise in 2019 with the Chiefs (he opted out in 2020). In the four games he played at least 60% of the offensive snaps that year, Williams averaged 114 scrimmage yards, 4.25 receptions and scored four touchdowns. He looked pretty good last week as well, finishing with 70 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on just 19 snaps. He's a more than capable backup, and will be a great play this week as he faces a favorable Raiders defense. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Williams flirt with 100 scrimmage yards this week. He'll be a strong RB2 play in Week 5, assuming he plays. Williams is dealing with a quad injury that should be monitored, but he should be expected to play.
